Front loader stuck in final spin - not draining

Very likely the reason your washer isn't draining is because the filter screen on the drain pump is blocked so it cant drain, its a fairly common thing wrong with those type front loaders soi have written this tip covering how to clean that filter,

Hubby followed your directions. WOW, found 3 PUREX washing sheets in the drain....

This advice is for Kenmore Elite and Whirlpool Duet model FRONT LOADING washing machines. If you experience a problem where the washer does not drain properly or the drain pump makes excessive noise, here’s the information you need to check the drain pump:

  1. Unplug the washer while servicing inside the unit.
  2. Remove the lower kick panel under the door by removing the three 7mm screws under the bottom edge of the panel. HINT: Use a couple of blocks of wood to prop up the front feet of the washer to gain better access to the screws. Once the screws are removed the panel should drop down, and then pull off. If the panel becomes stuck, a slight tap on either side will dislodge it.
  3. Locate the drain pump. It will be located directly under the wash tub (it is the only pump this washer has).
  4. There is an access removal cover on the pump that can be removed to clean out the trap. BEFORE doing this, it is strongly recommended that you remove all residual water from the wash tub & drain line or you will have about a gallon or so inside your washer and on the floor to clean up.
  5. Here’s a helpful way of quickly removing the residual water. If you own a wet/dry shop vac, remove the drain hose from the standpipe at the wall and pull a vacuum with the shop vac. This will empty the wash tub, pump and drain lines. If you don’t own a shop vac, grab a bunch of old towels and open the access on the pump slowly so that it comes out at a trickle. Allow the towels to soak up the majority of the water. Close the access and stop the water if you need to get additional towels.
  6. Open the pump access and remove once you have all the water drained. Check the drain pump for foreign objects and debris. Check the pump impeller and make sure there’s nothing caught in it. Items as small as toothpicks or cotton swabs have been known to stop this pump from working.
  7. Clean out the pump thoroughly and reinstall the access cover. Make sure the cover is snug, but do not over tighten.
  8. Place the drain hose back in the standpipe (IMPORTANT – DO NOT FORGET!).
  9. With the bottom panel still off, plug the washer back in and select the following on the operator console – DRAIN SPIN, NO SPIN, and then press any button under OPTIONS 4 times (it must be the same button). “C00” will show on the console display as the washer begins diagnostics mode.
  10. Check the drain pump for leaks as the washer fills. The pump is gravity filled and will hold water even it is not pumping. Allow washer to run through diagnostics until it begins the wash tub tumble cycle.
  11. At this point, you can stop the diagnostics procedure by pressing PAUSE/CANCEL 2 times. The drain pump energizes and the washer will begin to drain.
  12. If the drain pump works normal and there are no leaks detected, reinstall the bottom panel and tighten screws.

NOTE: It is normal to have residual water left inside the wash tub under the wash basket. This is why it is important to leave the door ajar when not in use so this water does not become sour.

New detergent Sheets are NOT a good idea for front load washers

In the last week i have went to many customers home to remove detergent sheets from washing machine pumps on front load washers.

Purex® Complete 3-in-1™ Laundry Sheets are now on my "DONT USE THIS PRODUCT LIST." As an appliance repairman, i have made lots of money removing these sheets from the drain pumps on front load washing machines. I was at one of those jobs today and the customer watched me pull 14 of these sheets out of the pump and up into the hose that leads to the pump. I tested the machine and it then worked fine.

About 1 hour later, the customer called me and was furious because as she was doing a load a laundry and the water would no drain out again. I went right back to her home and once again i found more of those sheets inside her pump, 5 to be precise. About an hour later, i was done doing a complete clean out of her washer to make sure this didnt happen again.

She will no longer use Purex® Complete 3-in-1™ Laundry Sheets per my recommendation.

The sheets were designed to keep you from wasting money on using too much soap with the added ease of it also being a fabric softner sheet. Dont be lazy and dont use these sheets in a front loader of any brand.

The problem is that small articles of clothing like baby socks, and these sheets, make it thru the front seal and make its way between the tubs and on to the pump. This does not seem to be a problem with top loading washers yet, but we will find out in the near future.

I have a kenmore front loader Model #11047512601 Type 832 and it will not wring out the clothes proberly I have an f code can you tell us what is wrong please.

An f21 code indicates that there is something blocking the drainage system. could be something clogging it like mine did. My problem was a washcloth stuck within the drain. My fix was to remove front panel below door using a 1/4" driver to remove 3 screws. You will need a 5 gallon bucket, towels to soak up water, and a pair of channel lock or large pliers to remove drain cap. let remaining water drain into bucket. remove large spring clamp holding rubber boot to drum housing and check to see if anything is in there. that was my fix. good luck

Drain reservoir, front loader

If this is a Kenmore Elite series FRONT LOADER, the drain pump reservior is located behind the lower toe panel directly below the door. There is a white screw off cap on the drain pump that you can remove to inspect the pump impeller and clean. The following link explains how:

You may also have to remove the inlet hose that runs from the bottom of the wash tub to the inlet side of the drain pump. Debris and small articles of clothing such as socks or under garments can become lodged in this area as well causing the drain cycle to fail.

NOTE: If these preliminary measures do not correct your problem, you may have to replace the drain pump. It does not take much to damage the pump impeller or motor. If the pump is damaged and can't pump at the required volume, the drain cycle will exceed 8 minutes and generate error codes. These errors will continue to appear until the pump is replaced. If the pump requires replacement, the following link explains how:

These are both very simple repairs that you can perform yourself without the assistance of a repairman.

NOTE: For an explanation of any error codes, each one of these washers comes with a technical data sheet inside.

To access, you will need to remove the lower toe panel under the door. The access screws are located under the bottom front edge of the panel. You may have to prop the two front fett of the washer up for better access ( a 2x4 works well for this). With the screws removed, the panel should drop down, then come off. If the tech sheet isn't directly behind the panel, it will be affixed to one of the interior cabinet walls.

The tech sheet lists all error code definitions, troubleshooting data, diagnostics procedures and wiring diagrams. I mention the tech sheet because you may need it to troubleshoot this error code.

Read through the information provided and if you have questions, please post back with your MODEL NUMBER. I hope you find this information helpful.

How can I get a manual?

If you need to clean the drain pump reservoir, or inspect it for debris, the following link explains how:

There is a tech data sheet that comes with your washer that lists troubleshooting advice and error code explanations. The sheet will be located behind the lower kick panel directly under the door. If not affixed to the panel, it will be located along one of the interior cabinet walls. Its recommended that you leave it inside the appliance when not in use, to ensure it does not get lost.

If you are looking for an Owner's Manual (operating instructions), has a huge library of downloadable manuals for FREE. All you have to do is register. Once registered, log in and click on the "Owner's Manuals" link under the "Home Manager" drop down menu.

NOTE: If cleaning the pump does not correct your problem, it is recommended that you replace the drain pump.

If you have any questions, please let me know. I hope you find this information helpful.

Kenmore front loader not draining.

Hi, UNPLUG the washer and shut off the water. Remove the lower front panel and you can access the water pump. You will need a wet/dry vaccuum to **** up the water as you open the sump cap on the pump. Spmetimes you can lower the drain hose into a bucket and get water out. Once the water is removed, open the cap and see if the filter is plugged as well as the pump inlet/outlet ports. This is common. If there are no obstructions, check voltage to the pump. it should get 120V.
I hope this helps you. Please let me know if I can assist you further.
