Question about Kenmore Washing Machines
My best advice...
Get on line with a SEARSPARTSDIRECT (below) person
You need to remain insistent that you think it is your lid lock...
and that you want them to prove it to you... and help you replace it...
But only after you unplug the machine...
Fetch ot a good slap in the middle
where the DEFECTIVE Latch lives...
and plug it back in...
Once you get your part number... tell your chatter you are going to PRICE CHECK at \appliancepartspros, partsselect & repairclinic
before buying from anyone
(because they all sell the SAME "STUFF")

That would be your lid switch that has went bad. Remove the console caps, then remove the two screws that hold it down (sometimes these screws are in the rear of the console) Rotate the console out towards you gently, then fold it up and over the top of the unit. You see 2 gold colored hold down clamps on top, and either side of the unit. You will also see a wire and disconnect going down through the cabinet on your right hand side. Disconnect these wires (be sure unit is unplugged) and rotate the whole cabinet towards you. You remove the two screws that hold the switch in place and a 5/16" screw underneith that holds the ground wire. Unclip the connector from the rear top of the cabinet and remove the switch. Be sure to bring your whole model number 110.************** when you get the new part, there are two of these, and they look the same except the wire ends are different. Good luck Jim

Check out this you tube. Had the same problem today. Tipped washer on its side and replaced coupler between motor and gearbox. Parts are about $15
This is a good diagnosis video.

The first thing seems to be the timer,or the water level switch. Try filling the washer with water by hand, if it starts to agitate after being filled its the timer, if not it is the water level switch, let me know if you need further assistance.

You can check your transmission if you like, but I think your problem is your lid switch. A washer that fills and doesn't do anything, or stops right after the wash cycle and then does not advance to the rinse cycle and drain is commonly caused by a lid switch malfunction. You should not have to hold the switch closed with a screwdriver to get it to work. The lid switch is usually mounted under the washer top casing, on the right hand side on most top load models. It is activated by a plastic piece on the lid (called a "Lid Strike") through a small hole on the rim of the wash tub opening. In many cases the lid strike breaks off the lid, or the lid switch becomes loose and no longer makes contact. Inspect the lid to make sure the lid strike is still intact, and then inspect the mounting screws (adjacent to the small opening on the wash tub rim) and make sure they are snug. If you determine the switch to be defective, the following link explains how to replace one:
If the switch requires replacement, a new one can be purchased on line at searspartsdirect.com, pcappliancerepair.com, repairclinic.com, appliancepartspros.com. Just use your model number as your search criteria. All these sites offer competitive pricing, so shop all them for the best price. If you have questions, or my advice does not match your symptoms, please let me know. I hope this helps you.
