Hello Day Fegely
Thread balling-up in the bobbin area indicates that the upper thread (the one going through the needle) is the one doing the "balling". Check that the upper thread is threaded through all the thread paths ... this specific issue seems to be due to the thread not threaded through the "take up lever" ... that is the 'thingy' that goes up and down really fast as you are sewing.

I have a pfaff 2040 and when the needle goes down to pick up the bobbin thread the main thread wraps around the bobbin housing and jams. Doesnt grab the bobbin thread. How can I fix this?

Be sure to use a brand new needle because a bent needle could miss the bobbin thread.

Search the internet for sites and videos relating to sewing machine timing or take it for service.

Needle holder will not move up & down needle, machine is seized.

I would check for thread wrapped around the bobbin holder again. If it is a recurring problem, then there is another problem causing it. Take it back to your servicer and ask them to look deeper for the real issue.

lower your needle. If up to high can't catch the bobbin thread.

How do i fix the tension on my pfaff tiptronic 2020

It sounds like you need to adjust the bobbin tension. There is a small screw on the bobbin case to tighten/loosen the thread's tension coming out of the case. Refer to the user manual on the procedure to set it.

I inherited my mother's Tiptronic 2040, and needed to sew a simple seam. I admit to not having much experience. I have re-threaded it several times,; re-worked the bobbin but the top thread keeps getting...

Deep breath. Ohmmmmm.... ok now.

Few things you need to know.

1. Try to remember TTN when you run into problems like this it stands for Thread, Tension, Needle. Contrary to popular belief, there is no such thing as universal thread and needles. You'll need to determine what kind of thread and needle is best for your application.

2. When things gets bunched up under the fabric it Usually means that the tension for the top thread is too loose. However, a bad, bend or just plain wrong needle will cause these problems too.

3. Always grasp the threads (both top and bottom) and pull gently backwards when starting a seam. Some old school seamstresses and seamsters say to make sure your needle is at its upper most position (just before it starts to move down) before you begin sewing.

4. since you've had a couple instances with this issue... you might have to clean the bobbin race area. I'm a bit reluctant to tell you about this but remove the bobbin and look carefully for other stray threads, dust bunny's etc.

I hope this helps some. ;o)

I have a pfaff 2040 tiptronic and the bobbin thread keeps bunching up and stopping the machine

Hello,
Here are a couple of solutions to try.

* Re-thread your machine, it may be threaded incorrectly.

* Raise your feed dogs if your machine has this feature.

Note: When you start to sew a seam, hold the upper and bobbin thread tails back and out of the way as you sew your first couple of stitches. This will keep them from getting caught in your machine.

Hope this helps.

Frozen Sewing Machine Arm/Pfaff Tiptronic 6270

Good morning,

A question to help determine what's happening with your machine(s).

Open the bobbin case so you can see the bobbin area. Begin by trying to turn the handwheel towards you and watch as the needle attempts to go up/down. If you cannot turn the handwheel towards you, turn it slightly backwards then forwards. Does the needle hit the bobbin case as it comes down?

If yes, your machine is out of time and will require a professional technician to repair.

If the above is not the case, there may be thread jammed behind the bobbin case or wrapped around the inner parts of the take-up lever.

Either case - a Pfaff authorized technician would be your best bet for a proper repair.

Best of luck with your machines - it's just awful to not have the at the ready for all our projects!

Happy sewing,
Kim & Linnette
