Yeah neither thing suggested will work. Other things I have tried are to start in safe won't. My PC is an HP and its about 3-4 years old. It is kind of like it is stuck, the little light blinks like ti is working on something, but nothing ever happens. I am really not computer literate at all, so this is really depressing.

I appreciate it. Just not sure where I should take it....I live in a small po-dunk town. But maybe a trip to the city is in order. Somewhere like BestBuy or something?

I think I would take it to your local computer repair shop, it could be alot of things like hard drive, corrupted system files and such. Without looking at it its hard to tell. But, a computer repair shop should be able to fix it

Right click the screen (desktop), go to View, then Show Desktop. This might be the problem the other is a multi display issue where your main desktop is off screen and your panel is now the extended desktop (with no bar or icons).

I would call BestBuy's Geek Squad and ask what they think it might cost you to get it up and running again, and let them know what you have tried. If they are going to charge you more then a couple of hundred $, I would go to Tiger Direct and get one of the $200-$300 specials, and use the existing monitor, and peripherals you already own. If the problem is the motherboard or graphics card or both, then you can still have your hardrive removed and placed in a USB enclosure so you can access all your old files on then new system. You may have to re-install your applications on the new computer.

I had this problem also, I found that running windows update and getting vista SP2 solved my problem. If this doesn't work, after you login in and you get the welcome screen with the spinning circle hit ctrl+alt+del and log off, then re-type your password and it should work, but you may have to do this a few times. I hope this helps! put a comment down if you need more help!

  • Press the down arrow button on your keyboard and highlight "Safe Mode." Press "Enter."

  • Type in your administrative password (if you have one) to log on to Windows Safe Mode.

    Cant log in windows!

Restart the computer and as soon as it starts booting up start tapping on F8 key on your keyboard.
The computer would show you advanced boot options.. select "Safe mode" from the list.
When it asks for Administrator's password, leave the password blank and hit enter .. If you have not set any password for the safemode (normally many users don't) then it would log you on and you can go to the control panel and reset the administrator's password or you can even create a new user profile.
Once you complete the above process, restart the computer and let it boot normally.
Now try logging in with the new password or the new user account that you might have created while in the safe mode.

Let me know if that works for you. All the best.
And yes, Do not forget to rate this solution :)

I changed the password on my Dell Inspiron 600m the other night and now I can't remember what I changed it to and now I'm locked out of my computer! Please can someone please . . . . help me?

Do you mean the password to log into Windows XP?

If so, right after you turn on the Laptop, start tapping the F8 key until you get a menu screen on a black background.

With the keyboard arrow keys, select Safe Mode and click Enter.

On the Windows Welcome Screen you should see your Windows account and a new Administrator account. Hopefully, no one set up a password on the built-in Administrator account. Click the Administrator account and click to log in with no (blank) password.

Windows will tell you that you are working in Safe Mode and click yes on that box (The screen will look considerably larger and your background will not show as Windows uses default video drivers in safe mode). Click start and go to Control Panel. On the left hand side click Classic View and then Double Click on the User Accounts Icon.

Click your account from the User Accounts window that opens and choose Change My Password or Remove My Passowd. After you have removed or changed your password, close all the Windows and Restart your computer normally. When you get to the Windows Welcome Screen, the Administrator account should not be listed anymore and you can select your account and log in with the New Password you created, or log in with a blank password if you chose to Remove My Password.

Hp 530 laptop windows startup password forgotten how do i reset it?

Please Be aware that when using this option you will permanently lose access to any e‑mail messages that were stored on the hard drive (ie. like through Outlook) or encrypted files that are on that account.

If you only have One Account on the PC you are going to need to boot into "Safemode" to do this :

    1. Restart PC
    2. As it is Restarting tap the F8 key over and over until you see a "Start Up Options Menu"
    3. Select Safe Mode and Press Enter
    4. Voila! You are in Safe Mode
    5. Log Out/ Switch User
    6. You Should See and Icon for Your User Account and Administrator
    7. Select Administrator.

    Part 2

Once Logged in Follow these steps:

    1. Open Local Users and Groups by clicking the Start button , typing lusrmgr.msc into the Search box, and then pressing ENTER.‌
    2. Double-click Local Users and Groups, and then click Users.
    3. Right-click the account that you need to reset the password for, and then click Set Password.
    4. Type and confirm the new password.
    5. Restart your PC normally
    6. Log in with your new password ;-)

I hope this Helps. Take Care =)

Restart your computer. Upon seeing the boot screen press F8 sometimes more than once. You will get an option window of which you chose "Safe Mode" you will get to the log in screen. Select administrator. Select "Yes" to the window that pops up. Move all the files in your my documents folder under c:\Documents and settings\HP Owner\My Documents.
