I have two dogs they sleep inside & play outside. They are both on monthly doses of comfortis and heartgard, however they still scratch more than they should. When I do find fleas on them they're dying or dead. Thanks for any advice.I have treated the yard once with something from Home Depot.I live near a river with lots of small fury animals so keep this in mind. Thanks again.

If you have a garden plant: Thyme, Sage, Cloves, Basil, Lavender, Mint, Peppermint, and Rosemary. These all repel/deter fleas, beetles, aphids, spider mites and other pesky insects. Catnip repels fleas and cockroaches. Here are 2 flea sprays I use and have had great results with:

    1) Mix Apple Cider Vinegar with equal amount of water. Spray pets, yard and also furniture.
    2) Take 1-3 lemons (depending on how strong you want it) and slice them thinly, leaving the peelings on. Place in a pint of water and bring to a boil, let set overnight. Pour lemon water solution into a spray/er bottle and spray pets, their bedding, along baseboards, rugs and indoor/outdoor furniture.

One home treatment is garden lime spread liberally over the lawn and dry ground areas
there is a solution that is used for mange mites that when sprayed over the area kills fleas ticks , mange mites and other nasties that affects dogs and cats
it is available from you local produce store or a vet may have it on the shelf
the one I use is MALDISON 50 with the active ingredient of maldison (500g/L) an anti -cholinestrase compound, solvent 493 g/l hydrocarbon liquid
It is registered as a poison so use carefully and keep well away from children
It is a complete dog/cat dip and does not affect the animals

My dog has heart worms how do i kill them without spending $350 at the vets

Hi Carolyne,You will have to take your baby to the vet and have them treat it and hopefully they can get rid of them, there's nothing you can buy to get rid of them.I have 3 Yorkies, and every month I call my vet to get 3 doses of TRIFEXIS,you can only get this thru your vet, they have to be tested yearly for heartworms and intestinal worms. The test for each of my baby's is 32 dollars,it also treats it for intestinal worms and it controls fleas, they never had a flea in their life. You will have to spend the cost but you need to get your baby to the vet as soon as possible, also get a rabie shot, owning a pet is not cheap. The monthly TRIFEXIS is about 30 dollars per dog.Check this link out. Trifexis spinosad milbemycin oxime

What is eating my dog?

What kind of Dog do you have? Does it live indoors or outdoors or both? Does it sleep in the bed with you? Eating your dog? Meaning bugs, or parasites, and even molds, could be eating the dog. Treatment depends on the thickness of the hair and the dogs weight. I give my dog a pill called Program Advantage, for his weight. It doesn't repel fleas, they fay dead eggs to make more fleas to break the life3 cycle as they only live a day to two if thier normal. Eggs hatch when conditions are right. if the eggs can't hatch your problem is solved for the fleas that found you dog. Treat your yard and bedding and all other places the dog hangs out in and you will beat the fleas and most other pests that can and may be eating on your dog. washing the dog for a few weeks in a row will get things under control. I try to wash him once a week.

What are the benefits of dental treats for dogs?

Dental treats for dogs improve the dog's teeth and gum health, while reducing bad smell as well. One of the main oral problems for dogs is the build-up of plaque. The best way to get rid of plaque is by chewing. Therefore giving dogs chewing treats will do wonders for their teeth and gums.

How can I control fleas and ticks in my backyard? I'm scared to let my dog outside; we just got rid of his fleas.

Here is what you need to do: cut all tall grass, trim all bushes and shrubs and rake all leaves under your bushes. Look into buying a lawn insecticide and spray under shrubs, bushes and all shaded areas. Wait a considerable amount of time after spraying (up to 6 hours) before letting your dog play outside.

How did my dog get fleas? Our house is clean and I bathe her once a week. It doesn't make any sense.

Unfortunately, you can take as many measures of precaution possible and you dog may still get fleas. Usually, dogs contract fleas from other animals; a stray dog/cat, raccoons, or other urban wildlife may have recently wandered through your backyard. Flea eggs were most likely left in your yard. They then developed into adult fleas which most likely jumped onto your dog.

My dog has flea allergy dermatitis. What can I do to treat it?

You need a product that will kill both adult fleas and eliminate stages of the flea's life cycle. You should buy both an adulticide and an insect growth regulator.

Are flea collars the most effective way to prevent dog fleas?

They are a great tool in preventing fleas; however when used alone, flea collars are not the best form of protection for your dog. Flea collars are great when used alongside other topical flea control products.

You may find that they are sand mites and are not effected by the chemicals found in that particular product. Perhaps a change of product might deliver a different result.
