Erractic firing


!. check all plug wires and make sure they are in the proper fireing order.
2. Check points and replace condenser.
3. if 1 & 2 are good check timing, you can loosen bolt at the bottom of distributor and while the tractor is running at med. speed turn the disb. until it smooths out. Also give it a compression test. 95 % of
these problems are electrical the rest are gas related.

POSSBILE CAUSE TO YOUR PROBLEM COULD BE WORN OR CORRODED BATTERY CABLES OR BATTERY FEED WIRE TO ALTERNATOR AND VOLTAGE REGULATOR WIRES COULD BE FRAYED OR BROKEN.MAKE SURE DRIVE BELT NOT SLIPPING OR YOU COULD HAVE BLOWN FUSE LINK.

4.3 need to know firing pattern for plugs and distr


the firing order is 1-6-5-4-3-2 pattern from the front of engine on drivers side #1cyl.#3cyl#5cyl than on pass. side front cyl. is #2 cyl#4 #6 dist pattern drivers side is 1-3-5 than on passenger side it is 2-4-6 from the front to the back on both sides

As there can realistically be only 2 firing orders for a 4 cylinder engine then it will be one of these two. 1-2-4-3 1-3-4-2 I am 95% sure that on your Ford it will be 1-2-4-3. So give that a try and if it is incorrect then you know it it 1-3-4-2.

Firing Order: 1 - 2 - 3
Base Ignition Timing
Note: With the T terminal Shorted.5 +/- 2 deg BTDC
Ignition timing should be checked and adjusted, if necessary whenever spark plugs are replaced or any distributor maintenance is done. Ignition timing should be 3-7°BTDC at 750-850 RPM with the engine check connector terminal 11 (brown) shorted, Fig. 1. The engine check connector is located near the top of the transaxle.
