This depends on how much grass you cut & how often you cut it. I would change my belts every 2 -3 years with normal cutting unless your running over branches & leaves I would replace every year. Take a look at your belt if you notice any cracks, frays or cuts I would replace as soon as possible. Hope this helps.

After starting my lawn mower, it runs for a short time, vibrating and then stalls (stops).

Hi Abraham:
The vibrating could be coming from the blade.
- the centre bolt to make sure that it is securely attached,
- that the underside of the mower deck is not obstructed with grass
- that the blade is not bent.

If it will not start at all now you may have a sheared key on the flywheel.

Vibrating 38" deck on MTD yardman mower

Hi, first replace the blade spindle bearings, if you had to hit them to free them up the bearings are shot. Secondly, replace the deck belt. Because you engaged the blades with a siezed bearing the belt will have a worn section where the v will be thinner thus causing the vibration as it passes through the pulleys. Regards Phil.

Even new blades can be out of balance, but my guess would be either the other blade spindle, or the tensioner pulley bearing.

Deck vibrates excessively - Replaced blades and tension arm. it Still vibrates.

Make sure your blades are engaging the spindle correctly and are centered. My deck did this after I mounted new blades and had 1 of them slightly off center. Also, you may have a bad deck spindle bearing. Hope this helps you.

Yes, if you jammed something in the blades and the belt stopped, the engine pulley wore a thin spot in the belt.Every time that thin spot runs around a pulley it rides deeper in the pulley making it vibrate.Take the belt off and you should be able to see or feel the spot where the engine pulley burnt it. Replace the belt and it should fix it.
