I just found out that I'm pregnant and want to know if its safe for me to sleep on my waterbed.
of all, congratulations! Now, I am no
doctor, but I can see some dangers to sleeping on a waterbed while pregnant. First risk that I can think of first is the
use of electricity to heat the bed.
Studies in the past have shown that there was a higher rate of
miscarriages with women who slept on a waterbed (or used an electrical
blanket. The second hazard that comes to
my mind is the heat. Your internal body
heat should never go above 101 degrees.
By sleeping on a heated surface, you can increase the chances of birth
defects, or worse, miscarriage. I would
suggest buying a new bed. With all that
being said, many manufacturing companies suggest using waterbeds while
pregnant. They say that it increases the
comfort level for pregnant women and allows them to sleep comfortably on their
stomachs; thus taking pressure off other parts of their bodies.
