Question about Sewing Machines

Hi. I have a Empisal 406E overlocker, can I use it as a normal sewing machine aswell? If so, do I need to use all 4 threads or only 2 like when you use a sewing machine? Thank you.

Not sure what you are trying to do with your serger. An overlocker will ALWAYS finish the raw edge of the fabric. However, you can certainly serge t-shirts, sweatshirts, etc. Serging knits is fantastic because the serger stitch allows for fabric stretch without popping the thread. It is easy to sew patterns that require a small seam allowance, like 1/4". Just remember that the blades must ALWAYS be activated (trim off part of the fabric) or you risk breaking the loopers. You can use either 3 or 4 threads. Using 4 threads gives just a bit more security to your garment to prevent popped seams in active wear worn during sport events, etc. Using 3 threads is ok for garments that don't experience stress on the seams.

I've even made a quilt using jelly roll fabric on a serger. A serger is ok for this type of quilt because the pinpoint accuracy of strip quilting is not required as it would be for stitching together blocks that have points & seams that must match. It is very difficult to get very accurate seams on a serger, probably partly because it stitches so much faster than a sewing machine.

Tension settings on empisal overlocker 754d, pulse ?

The standard tension for a 3 or 4 thread overlock is to set each tension dial at the midway point and then tweak it from there. It helps to use different colors of thread so you can distinguish what each thread is doing.

Help plse, after threading it dont make the overlocking stitches. New machine, help with right way to thread machine and the smaller detail of threading.

Your machine is either not threaded correctly, or the individual threads have not been threaded in order. Be sure to ALWAYS RAISE the presser foot when threading the machine. You must follow the instructions exactly or the machine will most likely never work properly. Can you at least get a training class on your machine? A class is indispensable, especially when it comes to using a serger.

Even if it is not the same model, these instructions may be helpful.

How to thread a Empisal overlocker.. model 760C

Perhaps the manual would help:

On most machines, it is important to ALWAYS raise the presser foot when threading the machine (although the instruction manual says to raise the presser foot only to pull the thread tail under it). Be sure to give the thread an extra little tug when going through the tension disk to seat it properly. Be sure to thread in the order as specified (Upper looper, Lower looper, Right needle, Left Needle). If the machine messes up, it is usually a best policy to remove all the thread and rethread from the beginning. Threading out of order will almost guarantee failure!!!

I need help in good tension for rolled hem in empisal 606D overlocker

Your owner's manual should have instructions for rolled hem settings. My Bernina manual has a the following settings:
Medium weight fabric
80/12 Universal needle
3 cones serger thread
Upper looper 3-5
Lower looper 7-9
Left needle (no thread)
Right needle 3-5
Stitch length 1-1.5
Cutting width 2-3
Differential feed N

Can use woolly thread in the upper looper, but the tension may need to be loosened since the woolly nylon thread will stretch.

Hi, I,ve got a Empisal Overlocker S4D. It's not making the loop. Re Treaded it about 10 times, it makes 2 rows off stiches but no loop. PLEASE can anyone help?

wrap thread around it and place it on the bobbin spool. there should be arrows printed on the machine as to where the thread path is. normally after the bobbin is on the spool there is a silver thing that you can push toward the bobbin or the bobbin will push toward the metal thing. At that point it will either start winding, display on screen what you need to do next, or you will need to step on the gas pedal and it will stop when it is full ..
