Which ever air filter you want. Would not exceed a merv 10 rating. Too thick of a filter makes the fan motor work too hard to get air. Obviously the thinner the filter the more dust gets on the coil.

What is the output for a Nordyne Model B5BM-X36K-B (via google search)

Looks to be about right. This is an older unit. Have you had it checked or serviced? I'd guess you have a freon leak and it will not work without the right amount of "blood". Or filter's havnt been chanded, or filters failed sometime and the coils are "clogged" especially if house had pets. Your careful inspection should revel those problems. If no problems and not been serviced recently call HVAC tech.

We have a hvac Nordyne model P3RA-048K Everything

Either the filter is clogged and needs to be repaced.Or check the coil inside the unit and see if it is getting iced up.You can try shutting the unit down for an hour or raising the temp.If this helps the motor speed then you know the coil was iced up.
It is also possible the motor may be going bad, doubtfull though since they will run for a while then shut off.
Check your filter
Check for ice
Possibly clean the inside coil.

Evaporator coil needs to be replace again. Installed w new manufactured home; 09/2005. Replaced 05/30/08. Needs to be replaced again 09/17/09. All due to leaks. Freon was added. Currently has small leak;...

the manufacture is only required to supply the part free of charge thru its warranty period. the installing company probably would only give a 1year labor warranty and honor the pparts thru the manufacture for 5 years but unless you paid additinal for an extended labor warranty i dont think you are going to have much luck. Make sure you change your air filters every 30 days a dirty filter is one of the biggest causes of evap coils prematurely leaking. Sorry wish i could be more help.

Measure the width and length, then buy a filter that size.1" is correct for thickness.
