Not sure what you are asking. The stitch length will determine how far the feed dogs travel (thus pulling the fabric) to create each stitch. There is also the foot (or knee) control that determines the speed that the machine runs.

The page 21 of the manual has that information:

The presser foot doesn't sit all the way down in order to sew correctly. Can I adjust it myself? How?

Has that particular presser foot worked in the past? Do the other presser feet work?

If it hasn't been used before, check that it is the correct foot for the machine. Is it perhaps a darning foot or free motion foot? If so, those particular feet are made to Not rest on the feed dogs so that the fabric can be manually moved without the use of the feed dogs.

If none of the presser feet work with the machine, then the needlebar has probably shifted. It may be best to take it for service as it may require specific tools and gauges to adjust it properly.

Presser feet for every purpose

How do I drop the feed on my Bernina 180?

On the right side of the machine is a square button near bottom of machine. Push it in until it stays in. That is the way to lower feed dogs

My Bernina 180 will not feed when I use a twin needle on knit fabric.

are you using a stretch twin needle; without one you'll get skipped stitches. However, the feed sounds more like a feed dog issue. Have you lowered the feed dogs for any reason? Will it sew on a woven cotton okay? If yes, but not feeding the knit then you could try turning up the presser foot pressure and see if that helps with the feed.

If you look across the needle plate with the presser foot removed and manually turn it through a stitch sequence, can you see the feed dogs coming up above the needle plate??

How do you oil a Bernina 170?

Remove needle, needleplate, presser foot and bobbin case. Now take a lint brush and clean under the feed dogs and hook area. take the bernina oiler(must be bernina oil only) now place a drop just below where the bobbin case clip on and one small drop under the feed dog area. replace items, sew out a test sample and away you go

Is there a way to lower the feed dogs ''a little''?

I thought this was free . . . didn't know I'd be asking to join. So, I called the shop where I purchased the machine. They were able to help me fix the problem.
