Question about LG Microwave Ovens

1 Answer

Does anyone perhaps know why my LG microwave LMV1683ST does not work with a new door assembly installed?

My old door frame was cracked in a couple places but still worked taped together. I bought a new door assembly #ADC73908103, but after installing the new door the microwave will not heat and the carousel does not turn. The light goes off when I close the door, the fan does come on when I press start, and the timer counts down, but as I said the carousel does not turn and nothing is heated. I can put the old cracked door on and it works fine again, but not with the new door. Everything looks identical and I see no reason why it is not working. Am I missing something here? It has to be something simple, but I can't figure it out.

There might be a connector of some sort maybe a plastic part which gets in contact from door to the body telling oven door is closed and open....
seems like it doesn't recognize when the door is closed right now

Testimonial: "It detects the door is closed because when the door is open, the fan will not come on and the timer won't start. It displays a "Door" message on the display screen if you press start with the door open. Thank you for the response."

Anyone perhaps know why my LG microwave LMV1683ST will not function with a new door assembly?

I hate to be the bearer or conduit of bad news, but IF the old (broken) door works, but the new door does not, the new door may not be the exact replacement part! Otherwise, the operation would be identical. Clearly, the problem is not with the microwave circuits because they work fine with the original door! Is there a flexible circuit strip that plugs to or from the door, to the control board in the main unit? If so, does it look any different than the original counterpart to it?

I laughed my socks off. Without the door hook the door opening or closing mechanism is completely broken. If you have the time you could unplug it and dis-assemble the whole thing from the back and re-assemble it with a new hook, perhaps make a new hook from aluminuim sheet. I would throw it away and but a cheaper microwave.

How to change the handle

To access the door handle mounting screws, you have to remove the inner door panel that goes around the perimeter of the glass. You can use a small screwdriver to simply pry the plastic up and work your way gradually around the perimiter of the glass. Most microwave ovens have grooves in the panel that you can insert the screwdriver into. Use care not to pry against the glass. The glass is tempered and also has an RF shield that prevents harmful microwaves from potentially harming the consumer. If you break the glass, you will need to purchase a new door.

The door handle screws are located behind the inner panel. Simply remove the broken handle and install the new one. Re-insert the inner door panel carefully and gradually work your way around the perimeter of the door glass and make sure it snaps back into place.

If you have questions, please let me know. I hope you find this information helpful.

How to remove the outter door frame on the GE Microwave

You need to use the entire correct model number at their site, but you can find a helpful exploded view PDF diagram by searching for "Repair Part" at the GE parts site: http://www.geappliances.com/shop/prts/ Normally you can separate the door panels without removing the door. I've included a diagram from a Sharp model that might help. If you do have to remove the door, you have to be sure you reinstall it exactly where and how it was, or you may get microwave leakage. You should definititely mark the locations of all the hardware before disassembly.
