SOURCE: won't extract water from carpet.

Seems the 1950W is now obsolete, cna't even bring up a drawing of it. Usually when the vac. motor is running, then there has to be suction. But if a seal or gaske is missing, then the suction will be lost. So you might check the dirty water tank to make sure there isn't a part missing or out of place. Check this out, it is for a 1950-3:

Hi: I took my unit apart to clean it. I was careful to put it back exactly as I took it apart. Now it won't start. I also need a new filter. I rinsed it out but it still stinks.
Hello,
I would advise you to ALWAYS to FIRST UNPLUG YOUR VACUUM before beginning any service procedure. The best way is to check your owner’s manual to see the trouble shooting guide of which may help you. It could be a loose wire; or the separator could be on too tight, I am going to give you the Rainbow / RexAir Factory phone # so that you can check with cust serv or their serv tech support. Feel free to contact your local vacuum cleaner dealer in your area also.

So if you need further assistance, please feel free to contact your local vacuum cleaner dealer in your area or in the yellow pages, or contact the factory phone number or website to further assist you with your questions.
The Rainbow / RexAir Factory phone number is listed below:

You did not identify your model and the TriStar website does not provide manuals. They do have a FAQ page which does provide some illustrated guidance which may be helpful. See here:

If this does not assist in resolving your problem reply back with your specific model number.

I have a Dyson I took out the screws to clean it before I opened the canister now I can not get it together again

You're a bit unclear on what screws you took apart to 'clean it'. If you took the canister apart, then this Snapguide page
How to Clean Dyson DC07 Canister goes through taking the top section thoroughly apart, and has some notes about things needing to line back up properly, which might help in the event that you're not getting things to snap back together right. I took mine apart solo after picking it up cheap at a flea market, and also recall reassembling the top took a little patience.

Good Luck!

Hi its Darran at Dyson.

It may be worth taking the filter in the ball out and putting it back making sure it has clicked back into place securely.

If you need advice on this, please visit our website at www.dyson.com and click on the support section.

Alternatively, please contact our Helpline on 0800 298 0298 (UK) or 1866MYDYSON (US).

Probably not, unless you just have to have the docking station. My roomba always had trouble mating with my docking station so I never used it. I just plugged it directly in to will using the AC adapter.

Vacuum filter

We bought one a couple years ago too, no filters. Now, WalMart carries replacement filters for other vacuums that will fit. Go back to WalMart and pick up the Durabrand CF2006 - it's in an orange box, works like a champ, I think it was around $5. We bought a couple. Great vacuum.

Brushes still wont turn

I had same problem and it was the turbine assembly. Part was only $28 but with labor it cost me $140 total. Plus it took over 5 weeks for my vacuum repair shop to get the part. In hindsight, I would have just spent another $100-$150 dollars and bought a new cleaner because now I'm having issues with the water tank leaking and I have to replace the valve assembly. Seems like it's always something.
