SOURCE: model # 23662200,will not spin

Look under the machine and locate the bottom of the gearcase. Inspect the bottom of the gearcase for oil. If oil is present, the gearcase will have to be replaced and the oil has probably migrated to the spin clutch causing it to slip during spin. Check your owners manual for limited warranty. The gearcase may have a 5yr warranty.

SOURCE: Washing machine will not spin clothes

A washer that fills and doesn't do anything, or stops right after the wash cycle and then does not advance to the rinse cycle and drain is commonly caused by a lid switch malfunction. The lid switch is usually mounted under the washer top casing, on the right hand side on most top load models. It is activated by a plastic piece on the lid (called a "Lid Strike") through a small hole on the rim of the wash tub opening. In many cases the lid strike breaks off the lid, or the lid switch becomes loose and no longer makes contact. Inspect the lid to make sure the lid strike is still intact, and then inspect the mounting screws (adjacent to the small opening on the wash tub rim) and make sure they are snug. If you determine the switch to be defective, the following link explains how to replace one:

If the switch requires replacement, a new one can be purchased on line at,,, Just use your model number as your search criteria. All these sites offer competitive pricing, so shop all them for the best price.

Build up of dirt in tub making clothes dirty... How do I clean inside of machine?

If you use powder detergent ( clay carrier) the build up is from undissolved powder ( clay)
It forms cakes between the spin tub and the outer bowl
The fix is to pull the washer apart and physically remove the caked up mud from all parts of the machine
The prevention of future mud is to use liquid detergents rather than powders
It works like this powder detergents have a small percentage of actual detergent in use and that is dried onto a clay base as a transporter agent
In the wash , the detergent is released but the clay will not dissolve
Most is pumped out with each spin but a certain amount remains , dries and starts the dirt process through the clothes
With liquid detergents there is the same amount of actual detergent but the carrier is water and that is diluted in the spin and completely flushed away

My Tromm washer is leaving residue on my clothes

Make sure you are using the correct soap. (Front load soap powder) Also use a bit less than suggested on the packet. If you are often using cold or low temp wash cycles, dirt and build-up in the machine will be common and come off on your clothes. Use a very hot wash at least once a month to clean it out and stop using fabric softener. It sticks to everything and any dirt in the water gets stuck on and then comes off in later wash cycles.

My 4 year old roper washer leaves grease on clothes. On spin cycle the machine makes a screaching noise, and the clothes don't spin dry.

Possible that the belt is slipping and also there is some issue with the agitator as the gaps within seems to bring up the dirt or grease mix to the clothes.
So it is important to remove the panel and check the play on the belt, replace if the play is high and check if the agitator bearings are worn out. If so the agitator assembly must be taken out and checked.

Agitator does not spin. Stops when lid is raised. Water does drain.

Chances are excellent you have a very minor problem. On most machines the agitation or spinning will stop when you raise the lid. So that is normal.

What we need to know is are the clothes getting spun out? If the machine is spinning the clothes and they are coming out plastered to the sides of the tub, we are in good hands. If at this point the clothes really aren't getting washed well, you probably just need a part called dog agits. These are very cheap and well worth the repair.

If the clothes are not getting spun out at all and you are having problems with agitation it is still ok. At this point you probably just have a part broken that is called a coupler. A coupler goes in between the motor and transmission and transfers power. These machines use these couplers instead of a belt.

So, from your description of "Agitator does not spin. Stops when lid is raised. Water does drain.", we can say with certainty that it is ok that the machine stops when the lid is raised. Also, your pump is working since your water is getting drained. The agitation is what we need to work on.

Your machine has a lid switch that can be pushed with your finger or an object like a pencil or screwdriver. On the bottom of the lid there is a plastic "strike". It is just a piece of plastic that sticks out. And when the lid is closed, it pushes down on the lid switch. What you need to do is push down on the lid switch in the same fashion. This way you can watch the machine as it agitates and figure out what it is doing :) Please post a comment if you have any further questions and I'd be glad to help !

Machine will not spin or drain water.

I have a problem with my MW512AU. Sometimes it drains after wash cycle, but sometimes it sticks when it goes to spin, doesn't get up to speed, water comes on for about 10 seconds and shuts off, and it tries to spin again. If I hit the wash progress switch it goes directly to final spin and works ok. I then have to run a 2nd wash cycle to rinse the clothes. I also noticed a buzzing sound when I turn on the power point, which lasts about 3 seconds before stopping. It will come back on every 3-4 minutes for 30 seconds. This is with the machine power switch off. It powers on normally.

Trys to spin but stops every time.

Sounds like you have a small clothing garment maybe a sock or similar stuck in the waste pump.

Take the lid off, Follow the bottom rubber hose inwards it connects to the waste pump, remove the hose from the pump and check inside the hose and the pump for clothing, make sure the pump spindle can spin round with your finger. Please make sure the power is switched off before removing the lid

Vibrating Washing Machine

How long have you owned this unit? If it is new I would look in back for yellow straps and yank them out as they are shipping straps, If it is old I would get it to that point of dancing and stop the machine and check for water in the basket. If this doesn't get it I would pull the machine out and tilt it back and look at the four springs supporting the tub to make sure they are attached especially the one in the back that goes tub to frame. If it is an old but faithful machine suddenly acting this way I suspect basket alignment from a corroded block drive, damaged agitator and holding the lid switch so you can watch the spin will pin point this problem. Another is slow spin from a worn timer leaving water in the clothes, you would know because the clothes wouldn't spin out 100% of the water. Finally older machine can get a sledgy deposit in the back bottom of the tub close to the center causing a unbalance usually marked by a smelly machine that leaves black marks and spots on clothes. Please get back after you have this food for thought.
