SOURCE: Motion Light doesn't work on switch

it sounds like you may have the switch and the motion sensor wired is series , in which case the motion sensor will only function if the switch is in the on position and give you no way to keep the light in a constant on position. if you where to wire the sensor in parallel with the switch the switch would act as a bypass to the sensor , which sounds to me like what you are trying to achieve .

Sounds like the relay in motion sensor. Change the bulb. Rechargeable batteries are no good after 3-4 years also.

The black wire goes with the black house supply wire, and the red wire goes with the black wire from the lighting fixture. The white wires all connect together.

A quick peek inside a sample Leviton manual confirms that your wires are connect correct - BUT...

The remaining 3-way switch needs a jumper wire.
See if your instruction manual shows the same thing as image below.
Let's go through this.
The yellow wire connects to a traveler ... and that traveler connects to one of the brass screws on 3-way switch.
The black wire from Motion sensor also connects to a traveler wire ... BUT you have to identify which traveler wire and which brass screw that traveler wire connects to. And then, put a jumper wire (a short piece of wire) from that brass screw to the dark-colored screw.
I think that will do it.
Add a comment if your device is different.

Some of these electronic devices are reversed when two of their wires are connected together.
That's what the jumper wire is doing. So the 3-way switch is just connecting and disconnecting the black and yellow wires, and that action reverses the circuit in the motion device.

Just installed a motion activated light (model 021746). The light will not turn off; there is no switch.

in the installation notes , it probably reads to this effect
to run the light all the time --switch of power supply and switch on
to run a light sensor - turn the power off , back on back off back on
one action changes the internal program to leaving the light on , the other activates the sensor mode
the switch is the light switch that controls power to the unit

My flood lights have a manual function so that I can wire a light switch to them and use them with switch as well as a motion detector. However the users manual does not provide instructions or diagra

you need to either break the circuit going to the light, so find the wire that powers the light & cut it where you want the switch, then join the black wires together & put the reds in each end of the switch.
or the way you asked about, which will depend on what your light has in the of terminals in the conection box.
ill do you a drawing..........

flood-lights-manual-function-wire-light-kh0zpbanw2f22f2jnqn4pytl-4-0.jpg so take the red out of its terminal in the back of the light, put it in its own conector or a spare one thats already in the light, might be labeled (manual function) then run one 2 core/ twin & earth wire to where you want your switch to be, & then wire it up like the picture, red in com black in either l1 or l2..
go back to the light & take the red of your new wire & put it in the same terminal as the one i just told you to take out, then put the black from your new wire & put it where the red wire was to start with.
your live could be either red or brown depends on the cable used.
check your swith aswell b4 screwing it to the back box, to make sure you put it the right way up,nothing more anoying than an upside down switch.......lol
good luck!

Motion sensor light not tripping off

If new, then it could be faulty. If old, then may have water damage.

POSSIBLE CAUSE
1. Light switch is turned off.
2. Flood lamp is loose or burned out.
3. Fuse is blown or circuit breaker is turned off.
4. Daylight turn-off is in effect.
5. Incorrect circuit wiring, if this is a new installation.
6. Light control aimed in wrong direction.

SOLUTION
1. Turn light switch on.
2. Check flood lamp and replace if burned out.
3. Replace fuse or turn circuit breaker on.
4. Recheck after dark.
5. Verify wiring is correct.
6. Re-aim light control to cover desired area.

Motion Light doesn't work on switch

Try turning the switch on and off and back on again this usually will bypass the motion detector. when you are finished you can turn the switch off for a few seconds and back on and it will resume its normal function
