SOURCE: Water softner dirty water

you might also want to check into the piping in your house is it gavinized, cpvc or copper, this could also make a diffrence, you could also be pulling mud from the bottom of your well, the anoid rod in the water heater will keep you from seeing this in the hot side lines, suggest to have a test done on the water take a jar with a lid and take it to your local plumbing supply house and see if they can't have it tested then you will have all your answers, the test i'm in md. it cost us aprox 40.00 to have the complete water test,

What could be the problem causing the rotten egg smell in the water? We have changed the anode rod.shocked the well.no sulfur. We have kinetico softener. Use iron out salt. Water heater 2 yrs old.

Some water softeners you can increase the back wash time on the unit to clear out a smell or bad taste , rotten egg smell can be sulfur. You may need a well flush but seek a well company on that for there advice as its not cheap .

Found water in the pan under bottom of my 60 gal Rheem Marathon model CMR 75245 electric hotter tank. There is no other source of water goes in the pan. Tank is only 4 yrs old. Is the tank leaking?

Is it sitting in the pan or is it elevated over the pan? It is hard to see the leaking if it is sitting flat in the pan. Check all the connections, top and bottom. Wipe them dry and then run your hand over the connections and feel for water. Also check under the heating element covers for leaks. Good luck!

How long to heat water in tank

Depending on the size (volume) of the tank, you should feel the water rise above ambient temperature in as little as 10 - 30 minutes. Hot water should be available in 20 - 60 minutes for electric water heaters - and slightly less for LP / Gas fired heaters.

Water heater leaks

You have to replace water heater.
But you can buy-time if leak is small by turning heater off except when you need hot water. This will give you 30-60 days to shop and find best heater.

To prevent tank from rusting in this manner, inspect and replace anode rod each 2-4 years, and keep water pressure below 80psi.

How do you set tempature to make the water stay hotter longer? I have a Rheem 82v66 2 (65 gal) and cant fill my bath tub with out running out of hot water.

65 gallon water heater should fill more than 1 bathtub since typical bath only uses 12-14 gallons hot water. First hour delivery on your tank should be greater than 60 gallons.
http://waterheatertimer.org/Hot-water-use-chart.html

Since you have such a small amount of hot water, it sounds like bottom element is burned out, or one of the thermostats is bad. There are two thermostats, and two 4500 Watt elements on 65 gallon tank.
If upper element was burned out, or water heater was not getting 240V electricity, then you would have NO hot water. So we know upper element is good and circuit is good.

Ordinary tank-type electric water heater is fully repairable by homeowner and parts are available at hardware or home center.
I suggest taking 30 minutes and doing troubleshoot before replacing any parts.
Buy cheap multimeter from home center.
When testing voltage, rotate multimeter dial to 240-250-277 VAC
When testing elements or continuity, rotate dial to Ohms.
