I have spark and fuel. But bike will not start even put starting fluid into spark plugs. Could this be bad valve timing?

Hi Gerald:
Old dude philosophy..........
If it has fuel, and it has spark, it should run.
I'd recommend:
- Double check the spark. Pull the plug(s) connect the lead, hold the plug against the cylinder head, and spin over. Spark should be hot and blue.
- While you've got the plug(s) out it would be a good idea to check the compression.
What is the history? Make, year, model? Has it been sitting ofr a long time? Did you just get it?
The more info you can provide, the better the chance that we can help you.
Reply as a comment to this post so that I will get it.
Cheerfuls.

Stihl winterize pressure washer

To winterize , be sure to run all of the gas out of the unit... also make sure no water is left on the pump. If so, the water will freeze and expand causing blown seals when you try and start it next season, you won't have any pressure... DO NOT USE STABIL.

Remive all gas, even from the carburetor... to do that, loosen bottom bolt on the bowl of the carburetor and let the gas leak out...OR run it until it stalls from being out of gas... keep your plug in, don't remove it. Some people do BUT it's silly to do so because it allows debris to fall into the hole and which could damage the cyclinder walls...

I keep mine in my basement to take no chances.. if you have a basement, you won't have to worry about wintering since it will be warm enough inside... especially if you have an expensive Stihl, lol, I would.

I just installed a holley blue electric fuel pump and regulator. When I get on the highway I cant go more than a couple miles before I lose fuel pressure and have to pull off the road to refill the bowls...

Several things for you to check. I'd start with the fuel cap. Try to run the truck without a fuel cap on it and see if the problem occurs, perhaps the fuel cap is creating a vacuum and keeping the gas from flowing. Then, try taking a long hose and run it from the electric fuel pump back to the gas tank, and run the pump and see if the pump will pump continuously for 10 - 30 minutes. If this does not work, perhaps the fuel supply is blocked or the fuel line hose is collapsing between the pump and the gas in the tank.
Another thing could be is the fuel filter on the carburetor itself. Many carburetors have a screw-in fuel filter right where the gas line attaches to the carburetor that has a metal or paper filter inside. If this got dirty with all your work, perhaps that is it. Be blessed.

Motorcycle carburetor

Carb is not a pump. Carbs depend on suction and pressure to operate. If you are not getting fuel, the fuel pump may not be delivering the fuel to the carb or the carb may not be allowing the fuel in due to a stuck float valve or a dirty jet. I'm leaning toward a dirty jet or bad fuel.

Keeps stalling out and wont stay running

The fuel system is probably gummed up from the gas sitting in the unit. Change the gas and use a fuel additive such as Star Tron in the new gas to help clean it out. If that doesn't get it, you may end up needing to replace the fuel filter and/or rebuild the carburetor. You can get the model # from your carburetor (usually stamped into the housing of the carburetor, itself) and enter it at PartsBuggy's website here to get a list of the available repair kits.

Ethanol in fuel shortens the shelf life of fuel dramatically and using Star Tron can all but eliminate the problems of ethanol in today's fuel.

I have a Craftsman 2700 psi pressure washer with a Briggs and Stratton 850 engine (80 year anniversary special addition) . It is about 2 years old and used very little and will not start. I filled it with...

Here is the long answer with everything we learned while using a power washer twice a day for years::

It sounds like could be one of the problems listed below or a combination of those things.
1) The exhaust is partially blocked. Check the screen covering exhaust port for carbon and dirt build-up. High-speed exhaust air must pass freely. We finally broke the exhaust screen out with a screwdriver to get our machine going one day.
2) Gas is not flowing freely to carburetor > under gas tank, find the rubber hose connected to carburetor. Pull off rubber hose and make sure gas flows freely. You can use this hose to drain gas tank of old gas ... and then put in fresh gas.
3) Carburetor is partially gummed up and engine cuts off when gas flow slows down. Buy some gum out, and then don't store power washer with gasoline in the tank. Or put additive in gas when storing machine.
4) The choke is letting in too much gas or not enough gas. Try different adjustments. The choke-lever on our power washer got so bad that we could not set throttle at full open or the machine would die. We still use the machine at 2/3 throttle, and then start it each time using WD-40 as described below.
5) Dirty air filter that won't let engine breath enough air to keep up with combustion. Take off air filter and see if problem persists.
6) The spark coil is going bad?? Change spark plug to see if problem persists. Is spark plug wire pushed all the way onto the spark plug?

Now the nitty gritty: we're gonna start that thing right now
7) Take off air filter. Spray WD-40 directly into carburetor. Yes, we use WD-40 every time to start my power washer, and we use the washer twice a week.
Spray in the WD-40, Pull the engine cord. The engine will fire on WD-40. Guaranteed.
Once it starts, keep spraying WD-40 directly into carburetor to keep engine going.
If engine will not fire and keep going on WD-40, then your spark is suspect.
If your engine fires and runs on WD-40 but dies without it, then your gas supply or carburetor are suspect
8) Carburetor problem >>> try Gum out >>> and then take machine to small engine repair shop
9) Spark ... take out spark plug. Put spark wire back on. Hold spark plug by spark wire. Touch metal threads of spark plug to metal opening where plug came out. Metal to metal. Pull back start cord and look for spark between the metal.
If you have no spark, then spark coil is bad >>> take machine to small engine repair shop

U can see that the fuel pump is working but the car will not start. We have changed the fuel filter an there is gas getting to the carborator but very little. If u put gas directly into the carborator it...

There is a fuel pump relay but no pressure relay. If the pump is working then that eliminates the relay as the cause. I would disconect the fuel line to the carburetor and check the fuel pressure there. I believe it is supposed to be 12-14lbs. If it is less, the pump could be going bad.

Honda GCV160 Engine Won't Start

Hello
You should siphon out all the old gas you can. Replace with new gas. Check that the spark plug is good and the air filter is clean. Spray some carb cleaner in the carburetor.. Also, you should check the oil level and change the oil if it is black. If it tries to start after you spray the carb cleaner in but won't keep going then you know the carburetor needs a good cleaning
