If you know someone who is savvy in the mysteries of electricity, ask them to test the foot pedal to see if it is working and the socket on the machine to see if it is receiving power.

If you need a new foot control pedal - check the Internet for best prices - you will need the machine's model number.

If you take the machine to a dealer for service, ask what it will cost before making the trip.

The bench rate for just looking at the machine may not be worth it.

Hi. I bought a Husq. Topaz 25 sewing/embroidery machine. I used it a few times with no problem. It sat, unused, for about a month, and the next time I tried to use it, the foot pedal didn't work.
Does the motor actually hum like it is trying to run? If so, the machine probably needs a thorough cleaning and oiling.

If the machine makes no sound at all, then it most like a problem with the foot control or power system. (Make sure it is plugged in securely.)

Singer 400 will not power on
Try turning the power switch on with the embroidery unit in place, insert the foot control. Then turn the power switch off, remove the foot pedal and turn the power on again. If that doesn't work, try inserting the foot pedal with the power switch in the off position, withdrawing it, then turning the power switch on.

Your motor was designed to shut itself down if it overheats or if stitching was interrupted. For instance, if your needle hit something solid and the needle bent or broke.

Generally, it will go on again in 10 minutes to 2 hours, depending on what the cause was. Occasionally, it can take longer. Using the foot pedal tends to reset the motor. I discovered this by accident one night, when I assumed that it was a Reset port and gently stuck the eraser end of a pencil in it until I felt resistance, then withdrew it. The machine had only shut down for about 3 minutes, but it turned right on again.

there could be something wrong with the motor,, make sure that
the power cord and foot pedal are securley plugged into the machine
if the machine still hums,,then take the machine back and get
another one.

The motor on my machine as slowed down
make sure the power cord is plugged in correctly
and also the foot pedal
if they are plugged in correctly then it's possible that the motor
could be going out or have some kind of a short in it
the machine would have to be checked at a sewing machine shop

Well, you are definitely getting power from the electric plug in.

Let's do some diagnostic work. Do you hear anything when you press the foot pedal? Any hum? Did you happen to leave it in bobbin winding mode?

your machine doesn't have a "sew" button for use without the pedal. So please rotate the hand wheel toward you as you press the pedal. Did the motor take over and sew?

If you know someone with a meter... have them test the pedal. (they will place probes on/in the part that plugs in which tests for shorts, etc.) If that tests ok... then we know it's something more than the pedal and it will need servicing by a Singer Tech.

White 1600 SpeedyLock. Power, but foot pedal won't engage. Took foot pedal apart, mechanically looks fine-- computer board in there. Do I need a new foot pedal?
When stepping on the foot control, does the motor hum or anything? Or is dead silent? If it sounds like it's trying to do something, the serger probably needs to be serviced. If it's silent, you probably need a new foot control.

There is power to the foot control but not to the machine to make it sew
If foot pedal alows you to control the speed of the machine. They do go bad occasionally. If your machine motor plugs into the foot pedal unplug it and try it in a wall outlet if able. This will tel you if the machine motor is good or bad. Plug a lamp with a regular bulb(incandesent not flourescent) into the foot pedal. As you press the pedal the bulb should get brighter. This will tell you if the pedal control is good. Be sure the lamp is in the on position. If this is helpful, Please leave Feedback.
