Washer fills with water and overflows:

The water pressure level switch is a pressure activated switch that is used to determine the correct water level in the tub. This part is normally located behind the control panel and will have a hose or air dome tube that connects it to the tub. On washers that use an electronic control, this switch may be located at the sump area below the tub. As the water fills in the tub it will compress the air in the tube and push against a diaphragm inside the switch. The switch will control the water inlet valve and turn the valve off at the correct water level. If the tube has a leak, not enough pressure may be created to activate the switch and the washer may overfill. If the switch is defective it may also cause the machine to overfill. To determine if the switch is bad, you should first eliminate the air dome hose as a problem. Look for signs of cracks or worn areas on the hose. Remove the hose and submerge in water. Seal one end and blow air into the other end and look for bubbles. Check for an obstruction in the hose as well. If the air dome hose appears to be ok, then the water level switch may be defective.

You can test it with a meter and with a manual test? ( first locate it in the panel, it has a plastic clear tube hose going into it, remove that tube from its connection, now put another small tube or hose into the slot where it was and have the machine set to wash cycle with water in it. Blow into the other end of the tube.
If the machine starts to wash. the pressure switch is more than likely good
( No wash- then THE DIAPHRAGM IS BAD AND SWITCH HAS TO BE REPLACED).
Another test u can make with a multi meter is by testing the prongs individually.
# 15,16,17 (don't worry to much bout the numbers IF U GET THEM WRONG) place ur meter prongs on both out side prongs or connectors of the switch.
(where the wire plugs into) take note of wether it shows OHMS or infinity ( open or close circuit) ? Now place the meter on the left outside and the middle prong, take note agin what it shows. Now place meter prong on the right outside and the middle prong. Agin take note what reading u get. ( you should actually get a reading of infinity in 1 and a reading of continuity or ohms in the other 2? Now the tricky part. Agin place a small tube or hose into the switch and blow into it, using the meter do the same test agin on all prongs. But now keep the pressure on the switch when u blow into it, in other words use ur tongue on one end of tube to not allow air to escape. When u test it agin now one of the prongs that once read infinity should now show continuity or ohms, and 1 of the other prongs that read ohms should now read infinity or open.


The other item to check would be your water inlet valve. Check it for continuity with a multi meter it should show Ohms or a closed circuit. To test it when water is overflowing unplug the unit and see if it still overflows or continues to fill. If it stops when unplugged. Then it is not a water inlet problem but an electrical signal problem going to ur water inlet valve. Possibly from the panel or board. You can also do a live volt test to see if it is getting the full 120 current, but be sure to unplug unit before testing as this is a live test.
Also another trick to check the water valve, is to first cut the water off and remove the hoses off the back of the washer. Then one at a time point the hoses inside the washer tub and turn the water back on. If you don't have good water pressure, turn the water back off and remove the strainer that should be in one end of the hose. Inspect the strainer to see if it is stopped up, clean it and reinstall it. Now repeat this test. If you have good water pressure now, reinstall hose and your problem is fixed

the water is draining back to the ocean. The drain hose was not emptied properly from its last use. Put the machine in spin cycle (about 5 minutes) only to spin out the water from the outer tub completely and retry washer. If still problem, then visual check drain hose that it still has a "rising" section higher in altitude than the water level of inner tub (when working properly) before it makes a U-turn downward to send back to the ocean. You can also test the drain hose by putting machine in fill mode and crimping off the hose (fold hose over) to simulate a good drain hose. At this test, you should not "feel" water running through the hose if successfully crimped.

tidalwave If the water continues to flow even when the washer timer and the power to the washer are off then you are right and the water inlet valve has to be replaced. If it does it only when the washer is on then it could be different problems. In that case the first thing you have to check is the water level switch. This is the device which controls the water level. Remove the power first.Open the control panel and you will see the switch on the left side. There is the clear plastic hose connected to the switch. Make sure the hose is not loose. This is one of the most common cause of overflow. If it got loose, drain out all water from the washer before you reconnect the hose. If this is not the issue then you have to check the continuity across the water level switch therminals. When there is no water you should measure the continuity across therminals 11 and 12 (gray and orange wires). Whet the tub has filled up with water you should measure the continuity across therminals 11 and 14 (gray and light blue wires). If the continuity is wrong replace the water level switch. If you are going to do it, make sure there is no water in the tub before you will remove the clear plastic hose from the old switch. Good luck. Gendos. post back...

I had the same problem and went out to a website for Maytag washers. That website advised that the problem could be mechanical or electrical. In my case, the problem was a clogged tube and it took only ten or fifteen minutes to fix.
0. Unplug the machine.
1. Open up the front of the washer. Along the left hand side is a long transparent tube. The tube connects to a wallet size container on the side and near the bottom of the tub.
2. Inspect the transparent tube. It may be clogged where the tube meets the wallet sided container.
Note: When the tub is full, it creates pressure in that wallet size compartment which sends air up that tube to a pressure switch located within the panel at the top of the washer. The pressure switch flips and tells the machine - stop filling the tub with water. My machine had a visible clog in the bottom of the tube that carries the air from the bottom of the tub up to the pressure switch.
3. Disconnect the tube and clean. I used a pipecleaner to get most of the mold out. To completely clear the tube, remove the top panel and disconnect the tube from the pressure switch in the top panel and blow air down the tube.
4. Reconnect, test - and you should be good to go. If not, your pressure switch may be dead.

Water stops flowing while washer is filling


The hot water on my washing machine abruptly stopped flowing within the first couple of seconds. After a bit of checking I found that the fill hoses behind the washer are of the sort that automatically stop the water flow if it exceeds a certain rate. They are several years old and apparently the valve on the hot water hose has started to malfunction -- it stops the water at a lower pressure than it should.<br /><br />Temporary workaround: If you absolutely MUST wash a few loads, you might be able to get it working by reversing the hose. Disconnect it from both the washer and the valve, then turn the hose around and connect it back again. The valve should not interfere with water flowing in the other direction.<br /><br />Permanent fix: Replace the fill hose as soon as possible to help prevent flooding accidents. These hoses can't prevent flooding in all situations, but as they say... better safe than soggy. (Sorry, couldn't resist!)<br /><br />Something else just occurred to me as I was writing this. Reversing the flow through the hose for a few cycles of the machine might actually help to unclog the flow-stopping valve. Before plunking down the cash to replace the hose, try reinstalling the hose in the correct direction and test to see if the water flows normally. I will try this and post a follow-up as soon as I can.

NF indicates no water flow. This could mean that the incoming water valves were shut-off, the incoming water flow is low, or that the washer didn't detect the water flow into the washer correctly. If the drain hose is too low, the washer could fill and drain simultaneously. This can also cause the problem.

First if the washer is not getting any water, then check your shut-off valves and the hoses. Disconnect the hoses from the washer and place a bucket under them. Check the flow by turning on each valve for a bit. Clean or replace the filters at the shut-off valves and in the washer. Consider replacing the hoses. Some anti-flood hoses will reduce the water flow if they detect leaks. Make sure that the hoses are not kinked. If the water flow is good at the shut-off valves, then the inlet valve may have failed in the closed position.

If water is filling the washer, then the problem is in the water flow detection system. This could indicate the small reed switch is damaged, the air tube to the reed switch is clogged or that tube has a hole in it. Some washers check for fill by the change in the drum weight. This signal may not be reaching the control unit due to a problem with the sensor or the wiring.

If the washer is filling and draining, pull your drain hose up. It is below the washer fill level. This creates a vacuum that will drain the washer.

An E11 error indicates a problem with the incoming water. The error will occur if the tub doesn't fill normally in about 8 minutes. This could be related to closed shut-off valves, failing anti-flood hoses, or debris in filters in the hoses or at the inlet valve on the washer. It could also come from a fault with the sensor that detects the weight of the washer tub, a problem with the reed switch that tracks water flow into the washer, the air tube that goes to the reed switch or a failure of the inlet valve. It can even indicate that the end of the drain hose is below the water level in the washer and is siphoning water out as the tub fills.

If no water or a trickle of water is reaching the tub, first make sure that the shut-off valves are open. Next close the valves and disconnect the hoses. Place the hoses into a bucket and check the water flow by opening the shut-off valves. Shut off the valves. Clean the filters, including those in the inlet of the washer. Reconnect the hoses or replace them with new ones if there was low flow. (Check the flow at the shut-off valves themselves with a similar bucket under the valve opening, if you can.) If these steps don't work, you need to replace the inlet valve assembly. It failed in the closed position.

If water is filling the tub normally and flowing out the drain, check the drain hose position. If the tub is filling and is held in the tub, then the washer isn't correctly measuring the water flow. Check the reed switch and that tubing by blowing into the tube. Replace a faulty switch and remove any blockages from the tubing. Check the wiring harness to ensure that the message got to the control board.

The E02 error means that the washer is slow to fill. This can be caused by a problem with the incoming water hoses, the water valves or the washer draining as it fills.

The first thing to check is the incoming water if you have very little water in the washer. Make sure that the shut-off valves have been opened fully. If they were fully open, close them. If they were closed, check if that solves your E02 problem. Next remove the water hoses. A damaged anti-flood hose can reduce the water flow to a trickle. Clean the filters at both the shut-off valves and the intake valve on the washer. Replace the hoses at the shut-off valves. With a bucket below the hoses, turn on the shut-off valves and check that you are getting good flow. Now, attach the hoses to the washer. Check if the washer fills properly.

Check that the drain hose is positioned so that the outlet is above the water line of the washer. If your E02 issue continues and no water gets into the machine, then the inlet valve could be stuck in the closed position. If the washer is filling and the E02 error persists, then the water flow sensor may be a problem. This sensor has air tubes that can become clogged. Make sure that they have no dirt. There are other parts in this sensor that could be damaged.

Why 4E error code keep appearing on my Samsung washing machine


The 4E error indicates that the washer hasn't detected enough water coming into the unit. The problem could be in your incoming water line (low water pressure), the washer hoses, the inlet valves, or the sensors that detect the length of time to reach a specific amount of water in the washer. It can even be caused by having the outlet hose positioned too low in the discharge pipe or sink.

First check the obvious possibilities: make sure that the shut-off valves have been opened. If you hear water running into the washer and then into the discharge plumbing after a few minutes, raise the end of the discharge hose to a level above the washer fill level.

Shut-off the incoming water and remove the washer fill hoses. Place a bucket under the hoses and open the shut-off valves. Check that you have good water pressure; the washer is looking for the tub to fill in about 8 minutes. Then turn off the water. Clean the filters in the hose at the shut-off valves and the ones inside the washer at the inlet valve. You may want to replace the washer fill hoses; some anti-flood hoses will constrict if they detect a leak and limit the water pressure.

If the water flow at the hoses is good and isn't exiting the washer, then the problem is either the inlet valve or the water flow sensor. Does any water reach the tub? If it doesn't, check the inlet valve and make sure that it is getting the proper electrical signal from the control unit. If water is reaching the tub, then the problem in the flow sensing system. Some washers use an air tube that helps check the pressure in the system. If this tube is leaking or clogged, the sensor will give incorrect messages. Other systems have a small switch that moves as the water passes through the inlet valve. This can fail.

There can be other problems that give the same symptoms. If you post the model number of your washer, I may be able to point you to the correct diagnostic steps.

if you have to shut off the water supply valve of the residence (water keeps flowing after turning off the washing machine or unplugging the washer), the failed component is definitely a stuck open water inlet valve (fill valve) of the appliance. If the water stopped by pushing the timer or unplugging the machine, another internal electrical control related problem exists, such as a faulty timer assembly or controller board, or a pressure system failure (water level detection/monitoring system) - failed pressure switch (rare), clogged air hose or tub air dome (common in GE top-load washers), disconnected air hose (common in frigidaire top load washers & GE/Frigidaire/Kenmore stacked washer/dryer combo units).

While a simple repair can be done by yourself for a failed inlet valve, usually for $25-$50 in parts/shipping (go to searspartsdirect.com or appliancepartspros.com to look up a replacement fill-valve using your washing machine model number), the water damage potentially caused by the flooding is more important to address.

I recommend contacting your insurance company if there's a bunch of water that flooded your home - the water can cause delayed warping of flooring or cause mold to grow in/beneath your carpets and walls if the water was not immediately noticed and cleaned up (within first few minutes of flooding) - they send out water remediation specialists to dry (if possible), or to repair the damage to your home.

Front load washer filling up with water when off


if it's off or unpluged and still filling up you have a bad water valve,mark the hoses if they're not marked already so you know where the hot and cold fill hoses go after you change out the water valve on the washer,usually sediment gets stuck in the valve stopping it from closing and the water will keep filling into the washer,i've seen houses flooded from this,shut down the house valve that feeds the washer until you get the new washer valve.hope this helps and good luck,next time send the brand name and model number.

Did not see this second post. If the water continues to run filling the machine try this.

Lets determine if this is a Stuck Open Water Inlet valve. If you hit the Off button does water stop flowing into the machine?

If so then I feel you have a stuck closed pressure switch never signaling that the washer has reached the proper water fill level and flooding the machine.

Dishwasher top spray bar does not spray due to low water fill


Check the water hose going from the sink to the dishwasher to make sure it is'nt clogged, if there's a water shut off valve under the sink make sure it's fully open, also check to make sure the spray arms at the bottom of the dishwasher that supply water to the top rack is clean with no debris or obstructions in the spray hole's, the water entering the dishwasher should be at a warm temp, if it's cold the dishes will not get clean, you should have good water pressure from the house supply for it to fill properly, the float is also called a flood switch, it should not be activated during the water fill cycle, if it's activated it will shut off the water inlet valve and the wash cycle will stop or the dishwasher will drain, if your still having wash problems it could be a defective water inlet valve or a bad timer, if that's the case you might have to call an appliance repair man, hope this helps, good luck.
