SOURCE: How do I remove the lint housing of Maytag Neptune dryer

Hi Kate,

Gaining access to the lint housing sounds more difficult than it is. As a matter of fact, I could get to it and have it back together in the time it takes me to type out the instructions!

Tools needed;
1.) Phillips screwdriver
2.) 5/16" nut driver or socket

UNPLUG THE DRYER FIRST!!! Or risk a funky new hair-do...

Open the door and remove the four screws at the hinges then remove the door. Opposite the hinges, you'll see 4 more screws, remove these too. Now grasp the front panel on both sides near the top and pull it toward you. Lean it out to about a 45 degree angle and lift it off the clips that are holding it (at the bottom).
Now you'll see the lint trap housing. Look around the housing, you'll probably see a yellow wire near the 5 o'clock position, remove it. Now, on either side, you'll see four 5/16" screws... Don't remove the top ones, just remove the three below the top ones. You can now pull the entire panel off of the frame for cleaning.
Rebuild in the reverse order (and don't forget to re-connect that yellow wire!)

There ya go! Please don't forget to rate this as "FixYa", OK

Yes this is rellatively normal as clothes are just not made the same way any more. You could turn down the drying temperature slightly and put in an anti static drying sheet but it won't make that much difference.

Maytag dryer isn't drying well

This is a common problem when you fail to clean the lint screen. There is also the possibility that you vent is plugged up, to confirm this is your problem just remove the hose from the back of the dryer if your drying time goes down (gets faster) then you will need to clean the tubing going from the dryer to the outside of your house. This is a common problem in apartments. If this fails to resolve you problem you may have a weak operating or high limit thermostat. Hope this helps.

The dryer shut off mid-cycle. It smelled overheated.

Hi
Your thermostat is shutting you off on mid-cycle because your overheating the dryer...

Check and clean if necessary your vent hose.
If you vent hose "seems" to be clean then, try running the dryer with the vent hose off and see if the dryer is not running hot anymore.
Make sure your lint screen is in place and has no tears or holes in it and is still firmly attached to the frame.
If you are running too hot you are not moving enough air thru the system.
It could be that the fan blade is plugged up.
The problem could be a large lint ball build up in the center of the fan or a sock, thin pants,a pen, etc. that has gotten into the fan by falling down the hole where the lint screen is normally inserted.
You have to find the air restriction to solve the problem.
It also can be a loose or worn out blower wheel/fan.
Please take time to rate me thumbs up.

My maytag dryer runs and there is some heat ,but clothes take hours to dry

Check dryer exhaust force at outlet. The exhaust should exert strong pressure against your hand. If not clean or replace vent system.

Dryer lint screen may be clogged with lint or finely pulverized detergent residue.

Another possibility is that the operating thermostats may be out of tolerance.
Hope this helps.

Are you getting little or no lint on the lint screen? Are the clothes coming out nearly as wet as they went in, but feel warm? If so, you probably have a blockage somewhere in the vent/duct. Don't just check the back of the dryer, but also check the duct thru the wall and the point where it exits the house (exterior wall or roof). Many times birds will nest in the exterior vents or if they have a screen to keep the birds out it may become clogged with lint. If you have a window nearby try drying a load with the vent hose disconnected from the wall and hang it out the window (you COULD vent it into the house, but you may end up with lint everywhere and a lot of moisture in your house).
