This is not a question. usually enjoying a unit is all about settings like avoidance. also, Why would they be the same. They were manufactured 10 years apart.

Yes, whats the difference between fast route & short distance under the navagation application on the Garmin nuvi 1450 LMT? Please somebody!

This is real simple, fast route on all GPS,S including yours simply means fatest route by time to get there based on best roads and speed limits. Shortest route might be shorter in miles per say, but not always the fastest, because it will take you threw neighborhoods or back roads , school zones etc.... So, most the time you will and should use fastest route as it is best time, fuel economy and safest. Please if this has helped you, then respond with 4 thumbs up and a small positive testamony. I want to bet the best and quickest route rather than the scenic -help

Hello,

To obtain the fastest route all that you have to do is adjust your routing settings, to do this go into Tools > Settings > Navigation in this menu you should have the option of "fastest time" or "shortest distance"

Hope this helps!

Set the fastest route. The shortest route will take you off motorways and up narrower roads. Garmin satnavs know the difference between fastest and shortest.

If you have set it to fastest, as opposed to shortest, it should take you on interstates for the most part.

Navi g tells you to turn when you're right on the corner-too late

Hi

In the actual menu of your Nuvi there are different settings for getting to your destination via either
a) fastest route
b) shortest distance

Unfortunately quite often when the Nuvi is set to fastest route it will do all it can to get you onto the motorway or a main road as this is the way the software is set up. When in fastest route mode it cannot figure out that to go on the motorway in this instance is not the most convenient route for you to take at all.

If you change to shortest distance mode (its under the navigation menu I think) you will find it will take you by the route to your Nannas you would normally expect to go.

Sometimes this function is hard to work out as to which is the appropriate setting for a particular journey - you will need to experiment a bit with it but the general rule is if it is in fastest route mode it will look for motorways and main roads and ignore the convenient little back roads that we all know in our own locality.

You may find as general rule that if you plan a journey to somewhere thats within your local area its better to select shortest distance mode.

Fastest route may work better for longer journeys.

Hope this helps. Please do rate my answer. Many Thanks.

You should do the following: Changing the Navigation Settings;
Touch Tools>settings>Navigation. There you'll find how the sysytem will calculate your route.Route Preference.........Faster Time....Shorter Distance.......Off Road....Avoidances,very helpfull....Restore original navigation settings.
Hope this will help you,

Wont take a complete address. takes a different route to and fro . how can i set it to take me the same way both ways.how do i plan a trip with stops . do you have a manual. other than the quick start.

I don't know of any Garmin unit that can plan multiple stops. Problem with the Garmin, depending on your current location, it will go either the fastest time route, or the shortest distance. And sometimes, it can take different routes depending on what time of day. Most newer units take traffic into consideration based on time and location. You may want to play with the settings under avoidences.

Return trip

Have you selected how you want to get there, shortest distance, or fastest trip. You can set these under the wrench menu, If you aim for fastest, usually it will select all highway, if you select shortest distance it will calculate a trip that will drag you through every nook and cranny, usually quite entertaing (sightseeing)

Check the settings. There are options to choose, the fastest route, shortest distance, etc.

Also, consider the avoidances settings

Poor directions

Go to setting (the wrench icon) press it, then look for Navigation, then check Route Preference to see if it is set for either fastest time or shortest distance. If you want shortest distance, the upgrade most likely reset it to Fastest Time (default).
