SOURCE: Error message 6A00 says:
Hi there
This answers with a titch more detail.
The 6A00 is a Canon generic code for paper path jam.
Some where in the paper path a sensor is activated indicating paper jam so the printer will give off a 6A00 code.
As a Canon tech, I usually find the code, almost 90% of the time, is related to the purge unit being jammed with something and not being able to move.
Moving the print head assembly will not clear a purge unit if its jammed with paper, paper clips, push pins, screws, cookie crisp, flower bud pods or the like.
And yes I have found all those things in a purge unit.
The offending item needs to be removed or the purge unit needs replacement.
Incidentally, the 6A00 error pertains to all Canon printers made in the last several years, its not just used in one model.
And it’s always a paper path error or purge unit.
The purge unit, called a spittoon assembly in an HP, Lexmark, and other inkjet printers, is where the print head assembly parks when not in use, also its other job is to clean and make sure the print head is clean and open for printing.
That is where you'll find the print head assembly parked on top of it.
It also has an electrical pump to milk the print heads and test for ink flow.
So clean all under where the heads are parked and on IP6600D models you can take out the heads just by clipping them out, and then clean well.
Also clean the purge unit out make sure all is clean.

Hi,
Hi
This problem can happen because of following reasons :
1.
There is some piece of paper / paper clip / sticker stuck inside
printer and you are not able to access it. In this case you need to
remove all ink cartridges, turn off printer, then turn it upside down
and shake it few times. If still not working then you need to open it up
as much you can to see if something is stuck
2. The electric
sensor which receives signal from the mechanical paper sensor to detect
jam has issues. Either there is dust on it or its gone bad and needs
replacement. You should first open up the printer and blow air in it
(using compressed air can) to remove all dust. If it doesn't work then
this repair will cost you much more than buying a new Printer. If its in
warranty certainly call Canon.
You could download the manual from :-
http://safemanuals.com/user-guide-instructions-owner-manual/CANON/PIXMA%20MP610-_E
You need to have acrobat reader to view the file.
Let me know,if needed further assistance.
Hope i helped you.
Thanks for using ' Fixya ' and have a nice day!!

I see no one has replied. I have the same issue, and the only info is the manual saying contact Canon service.
Trying to do that, they want the serial number which they make way too hard to get. Why can't the online manual provide it?

my suggestion is this go to control panel. select the printer and remove it completly. then get your disk that came with the printer and re install it. that should correct it.
