I have a leak coming through my ceiling from the ensuite toilet above. It is an ideal standard wall hung with concealed cistern behind tiles. There is no obvious access panel. The tiled wall is flush.

The flush control panel normally comes off. You can then hopefully see inside. You won't be able to see much though as the cistern will be in the way...

Places to look for leaks are:
Soil pipe to pan
Cistern to flush pipe
Flush pipe to pan
Cistern overflow.

The tiles behind my wall hung geberit tiles are cracking and the toilet seems to be moving a little. Ian afraid it is going to pull out of the wall. It has been there for 10 years but is a spare washroom...

Never herd of wall tiles cracking. If you have access to the underside of the bathroom (via basement ceiling), you may want to check of the wall(s) has proper support for load or a non-supported floor plywood joint may have been installed the wrong way/not supported properly. You should be able to see the nails coming through the floor plywood where the wall(s) is located above. You may have to add blocking and/or brace(s) with joist hangers for support as required. Interior wall studs may also been spaced at 24"c/c instead of 16"c/c if the wall tiles were not installed by the builder not accounting for heavier than normal load.

If by chance the washroom is in the basement::
  • Non-load bearing walls (interior non-loading will be supported by the slab.
  • Load bearing walls will be supported by footing foundations
As for your toilet moving: the wax gasket may need replacing if not seated properly (rocking). If it just seems a bit loose, try to just tighten the flange bolts on both sides of the bottom of the toilet after removing caps. If no spacers are present between the bolts and the ceramic, they need to be there to not crack the base or reduce the chance of over-tightening that would do the same. There may be water coming from a shower that's close by or from the sweating of the tank in the humid summer months.

If the ceiling are closed for access below, you have the choice of tackling the job from within the bathroom by removing the some of the plywood floor to inspect the problem OR by the ceiling below. I would should the ceiling below if it was me.

Good Luck!

SL tank carrier unit just installed last week.work fine the first few times, now water keeps running into the toilet bowl

hey, since it is new, I assume a small stone or left-over is stuck where the seal is, You need to disassemble the valve, clean it and re assemble. Look at this guide that might help you. though it is not the exact model, principle is the same.

Caroma toilet 12years old, concealed cistern. Water leaking around base when toilet is flushed. water level maintained when not flushing, so the leak must be between the cistern and the bowl. Had a plumber...

Fixing a leaky toilet is actually rather simple, requiring few tools and just a little time and effort. In looking at Caroma toilets on Google, they appear to be just a standard type of unit, and should present few if any problems for yourself or any handyman of modest skill.

If it is leaking around the base of the toilet - where the toilet sits on the floor, the repair item is a simple wax seal. Here is a tutorial to effect this repair: Replace Toilet Wax Ring. The wax ring is very inexpensive, usually $5 to $10 USD.

If the water is leaking from between the tank (cistern) and the toilet bowl, the job is even easier, as it does not require lifting and moving the entire toilet. A good tutorial for that repair is here: How to Replace Tank to Bowl Gasket . The gaskets, new nuts, bolts and rubber seals come in a kit and also cost only $5 to $10 USD.

I am sorry to hear your Plumber insisted you buy an entire new toilet, but do remember he is in the business of making money!

What are the disadvantages of Concealed Cistern Toilets.

The biggest disadvantage is that they are more complex than the standard gravity fed toilets. More parts, more things that can go wrong. However, they generally operate just as trouble free as any other fixture.

Toliet that is leaking behind the wall

First it is not the toilet that is leaking behind the wall it is the water pipe in the wall that is leaking. You need to get a plumber out to fix the leak before you get mold. Now if the toilet is on second story it can be the drain pipe in the ceiling. You will also need a plumber to fix.

Good Luck and please rate 4 thumbs for the free answer.
