Qwest DSL / Issues with Motorola 3347

Our small office uses Qwest DSL. Recently our Gateway 2Wire modem died and Qwest replaced it with a Motorola 3347. Since the install of the Motorola, our computers connect for awhile, then suddenly the connection drops, but restores itself after a period of time (usually two-three minutes). During this down time, I can almost always successfully ping 192.168.0.1, but pinging web pages like MSN returns either a problem with host name or the request times out. When I run the Windows XP network diagnostic to restore the connection, it says the problem was Error 12007, which I've read may be firewall-related. However, no firewall or internet settings were changed (by me at least) when the modem was switched from the Gateway to the Motorola. I've spent lots of LiveChat time with Qwest Analysts who've not been able to provide an answer. I'm hoping someone here might have more insight.

The modem overheats due to lack of ventilation. I fixed mine first with Ice packs then a small twelve volt fan and some inexpensive heat sinks glued to the top of the two processor chips.

You need to cool the modem down!

Need url to login into modem...

Hi,

I have worked with AT&T before and modem/routers we handled were:
  1. Motorola
  2. Speedstream
  3. 2Wire
For Motorola modem the URL is 192.168.1.254
For Speedstream it is 192.168.0.1
For 2wire it is 192.168.1.254

But, for you find out what URL to use, do these steps:
  1. Click on Start.
  2. Click on All Programs.
  3. Click on Accessories.
  4. Click on Command Prompt.

On Command Prompt (black window)
  1. Type in ipconfig.
  2. Hit Enter.
  3. Look for the Default Gateway.(usually in the format of 192.168.X.X)
  4. Whatever the Default Gateway is, that is how you can access your modem.
  5. Type the Default Gateway in your browser's address bar.
  6. Hit Enter and you're in.
Thank you for using FixYa! Have a nice day.

Foce 2wire

Most device/routers/wireless devices that were specifically used by a different provider are not interchangeable unless this specific device can be given a firmware upgrade. If you were previous provider was Qwest, you probably had DSL service and now you have cable? Your best option is to purchase a new wireless device you can attach to your cable modem through Comcast. Good luck!

Need to network SG300 Firewall and Qwest (Motorola) 3347-02 Modem

The modem needed to be set to a 192.168.x.x network, and the SG300 Firewall WAN port needed to be set to a dummy IP on the same network for it's IP, and the specific 192.168.x.x address for the gateway and DNS.

DSL (2wire modem) and LAN conflict

You can actually try accessing the interface of your gateway and put it on DMZ mode. That way it will open the ports on your gateway to ensure passage of all data from your gateway to all your computers even when the dsl is on. But make sure tat you have security software installed on all your computer workstations bec. putting your 2WIRE gateway on DMZ mode will expose your connection.
