If its not the batteries, all apple remotes have a lifespan. If you bought it recently try to go to a store and explain the situation. If not, you might have to just buy a new one

How to install Apple remote batteries?

If you have an Apple Remote (aluminum)
Find the battery component on the back of your Apple Remote.
Use a coin to turn the battery door counterclockwise until the door opens.
Remove the old battery.
With the positive side facing up toward you, put in the new CR2032 or BR2032 lithium 3V coin battery (available at most electronic and **** stores).
Remove the battery from your Apple Remote (white)
If you have an Apple Remote (white)
Find the battery compartment on the bottom of the Apple Remote.
With a paper clip or similar object, press the circular release button on the compartment and slide the battery tray out.
Remove the old battery.
With the positive side facing up toward you, put in the new CR2032 battery (available at most electronic and **** stores).
Slide the battery tray back into the Apple Remote until it clicks.
Charge the battery in your Siri Remote. Your Siri Remote doesn't feature a removable battery.
If you have a Siri Remote or Apple TV Remote*
Your Siri Remote or Apple TV Remote has a rechargeable battery, not a replaceable battery. With its included Lightning to USB cable, plug your Siri Remote or Apple TV remote into a computer or USB power adapter to charge.
*Apple TV 4K and Apple TV (4th generation) ships with the same remote everywhere. In countries and regions that support Siri, the remote is called Siri Remote. Elsewhere, it's called Apple TV Remote. Siri works on either remote as long as your Apple TV 4K or Apple TV (4th generation) is set up with a language and country or region that supports Siri.

Why is my remote not working?

If new batteries installed correctly do not get it working again, it probably has failed. Before giving up, check for damaged, corroded battery contacts.

I had the same problem, and called Bose tech support. They put me on track to the solution. The code you need is under AUX, Music Player, Apple where you probably looked already. The secret is that you need to "unpair" the apple remote first. If I remeber right, in apple TV you go to settings, general, remotes and unpair your remote. It still works, but is no longer the only remote that works.

Apple Remote Control

To my knowledge the Apple Remote does not connect directly to any iPod (this might be different for the iPhone or iPod touch). You need to have the Apple Universal Dock to use the remote control.

Apple Remote Not Working

Have you installed anything in between time? (i.e.,Software updates, 3rd party drivers.) Have you cleaned or organized your hd and "got rid of things you don't use/need ?" Has the laptop been serviced or opened?

Try resetting the MacBook's PMU (power management, hold down power button while the battery is out and the cord is unplugged) and possibly resetting the PRAM (hold down command + option + p + r before you hear the startup chime, it should start again, let it boot from there).

At the bottom of the remote is a small button that can be pressed by a pin or pen. Press it and the battery will pop out. Replace the battery and you will have a working remote
