The platen latch is broken, you can wire it down with some wire. or get a new platen.
That is if you push it down and pops back up.

SOURCE: IBM Wheelwriter 30 won't let us clear the left margin

If the carrier (print head) goes to the left when you turn the T/W on then try this.
Return to the L. margin, press mar rel key, backspace to the location that you want the margin, press L. mar key the wheel should spin and reset the margin.

SOURCE: print head moves left and stays horrible noise

The problem is either something is interfering with the carrier movement OR the carrier homing sensor is broken/defective. First, turn off the power and manually move the carrier to the right side frame, check for foreign objects in the machine (pens, pushpins, paper clips etc.). Put some oil (10 weight) on a cloth and clean the chrome shaft that the carrier travels on.(by the rubber cogged belt). This is a common problem. If the sensor itself is the problem, take to a repair shop.(not common)

Wheelwriter platen latch removal

Very vague question. the left side you have to drive the pin out.
right side just a clip.

If the platen wont stay down you can carefully wire it down so it doesnt interfere with the carrier is moved to the left.

Or buy a used platen.

Bottom half of letter not printing clearly

First try pressing down firmly on both ends of the platen (black roller) if it snaps into place you're fixed if it doesn't stay the black plastic latch is cracked you'll need a platen or just a larch if it is just the R, side.

The platen won't stay in place so only the top half of the characters are showing

If the right platen latch is broken it can easily be replaced to lock down the platen. If the left one is damaged then you have to replace the entire platen as that is much more difficult to repair.

I have an ibm personal wheelwriter. When typing on the right hand side of a page, the bottom part of the letter is not being typed. When typing on the left hand side, everything is OK.

The platen is not fully seated in the side frame. Press down firmly on the platen it should pop into place. Occasionally the black latches crack and the platen needs to be replaced.

The most common problem is the platen (black roller) gets out of position. Be sure the black latches are aligned wuth the side frames then push down firmly on the ends of the platen it should snap into place.

If it types only the top half yhe platen is probably not all the way in. Make sure the 2 black latches are lined up with the side frames then press down firmly on both sides of the platen.
