How to choose the Right Model Train Set

Model train sets are amazing and complex toys that can be enjoyed by kids and adults alike.
Many people have great childhood memories of train sets and want to share those nostalgic experience with their kids.
But before you rush out and spend a lot of money on such a big investment, make sure that you think about the following;
How much room do you have at home to set up a train set. The answer to this should affect the scale size that you buy, as there's no point getting an elaborate train layout that you then have to squash up or can't even set up properly.
The scale for a train set refers to the amount the model train has been 'scaled down' from a real train ie 1/45 of the real thing.
The really small sets can be very intricate and cute but if you have bigger fingers, are clumsy or want it for younger kids then you should consider getting a larger scale set.
Model Trains vs Toy Trains
It's easy to be confused but in general toy trains are cheaper and larger toys that young kids play with ie chunky wooden sets whereas model trains are replicas of real trains and focus on the small details. This makes them more expensive and also more delicate.
The best way to get started is to first figure out how much space you have. Then decide what kind of trains you like and how much money you have to spend.

Why is there a knocking sound from the top of the engine?

disable each cylinder one at a time. If the noise goes away it is likely a rod knock and is terminal. A new engine is the only way to resolve. If it does not go away than it is possible it is a wrist pin, also terminal, or in the valve train.

if you think it could be in the valve train try this. Add 1/2 can of seafoam motor tune to the oil. Start the car and let it run. If the noise goes away it was a valve train issue. change the oil and make sure you are keeping up with the proper maintenance for you vehicle.

if the noise continues than i would seek a professional ear to listen to eat and give an opinion.

When my soon put his pennsylvania flyer train set he unhook the wiring to the fasttrack itself. How to we put in back on the fasttrack?

turn the terminal track(where the wires were connected) over,
you should see 2 screws where the wires were attached.
loosen the center rail screw, strip the wire with the red end back - 1/2 inch on the end that was attached to the screw, place wire around the screw & tighten. repeat with the other wire attaching it
to the screw on the outside rail where it was previously attached.
reconnect the terminal track to the rest, connect to your transformer
and play with your train.

The train gets no power.

The instructions are sometimes a bit vague: for example, once switched on the train needs to sit and charge before it runs, but that is not very evident from the instructions and many folks spent some frustrating minutes wondering why the train wouldn't move.

Imaginarium Mountain Rock Train Table assembly

None of these are for the Mountain Rock Train Table. Instead they are for other sets. I'm also looking for the Mountain Rock Train Table instructions. Not the Mountain Pass set. They are different.

Wires disconnected from track

Power wire to the center track and ground to the other terminal. You can turn over the track to see which terminal goes where.

The A terminal of the transformer has no power but the accesory side does

Open up the transformer and make sure the terminal has not become disconnected from the power wire. Sometimes from use the terminal becomes unattached inside the casing.

My kids shredded it, so the part where the mountain is missing. But there is enough of the schematic to put together this train. Unbelievable that these instructions are so hard to find. Very happy to be of help to everyone!
