Need know what voltage ac for tablet

I would be surprised if any tablet required an ac voltage. Such devices as phones, tablets, laptops and other small computerised devices almost universally use a regulated and smoothed low voltage dc power adaptor.

When traveling to countries with 220 voltage, is there any danger of overheating my ellipsis 8 android tablet, or should I use a voltage converter?

You can't use your current 110 V converter. Should go to a local accesory store selling converters for your tablet and buy a 220V converter with output SPECIFIED FOR YOUR TABLET - mean, voltage and amperage.
Even using a 220 V converter, you can fry your tablet by not using the PROPER converter.

Cannot turn on. Battery does not hold charge.

I guess your battery is faulty. It may be a result of overcharging which may have caused the battery to be bloated. High voltage from the charger could also have been a reason for the battery's fault.

For this case, I believe your battery is in-built into your tablet. I suggest taking it a repair centre. Also, avoid charging or using as as it may lead to electrical circuit faults which may cause sparks within the tablet.

Used wrong charger on tablet, why it won't come on

Hi if the charger used was too high in the voltage, it would probably destroy the tablet. Try charging with the correct one and see what happens.

With many of these cheaper Android products it's highly recommended to go buy a better charger. You can go to Radioshack, if you have one in your area, and pick up a universal charger that should have the right tip and an adjustable voltage setting. Make sure to get one that matches the original voltage and amperage exactly.
This is a common problem with many of these cheaper tablets coming out of China, they all tend to have poor chargers.

What do I need to use my Touchsmart tx2 in France. Do I need an adapter or transformer or both

You live in the US, right?
First check the voltage rating on your power supply / charger's primary voltage range. If it states around 110V only, then you need a transformer from 230V to 110V with an euopean plug. Make sure it's a real transformer (rather heavy, rated at ~100VA will be OK), and not a lightweight high-power adaptor, used for lamps, pressing irons, heaters and similar appliances.
If on your charger it states something like "90-240V", then it will cope with the standard european voltage of 230V, and the only thing you need is a travel adapter that will have an european plug on one side and an american socket on the other.
