SOURCE: I have a philips

hi
maybe is to late but here is the complete guide of opc fail on this machines. First of all you may noticed that the very old TDK or Philips discs still record as they should. The new cd digital audio media have a "toc" info above 32x speed, and for the old 760 model the firmware cant see or read any kind of media above 24x. I am pretty sure that on this days there are no media makers with this low speed toc info. Regardless of Brand keep in mind that old TDK and Philips or some older Sony's are made by CMC magnetics. here is the complete info of one old TDK that Works flawlessly on this kind or recorders:

Erasable: No
Free Sectors: 359,847
Free Space: 736,966,656 bytes
Free Time: 79:59:72 (MM:SS:FF)
Next Writable Address: 0
MID: 97m26s66f (CMC Magnetics Corp.)
Supported Write Speeds: 10x, 16x, 24x
ATIP Information:
Disc ID: 97m26s66f
Manufacturer: CMC Magnetics Corp.

Last Possible Start Time of Lead Out: 79m59s74f
Performance (Write Speed):

-> EL: 359998 (0x00057E3E)
-> RS: 4,234 KB/s (24x) - WS: 1,764 KB/s (10x)
Descriptor 2...
-> B0: 0x00, B1: 0x00, B2: 0x00, B3: 0x00
-> EL: 359998 (0x00057E3E)
-> RS: 4,234 KB/s (24x) - WS: 2,822 KB/s (16x)
Descriptor 3...
-> B0: 0x00, B1: 0x00, B2: 0x00, B3: 0x00
-> EL: 359998 (0x00057E3E)
-> RS: 4,234 KB/s (24x) - WS: 4,234 KB/s (24x)
the only solution that I know that Works is to buy a mod chip in order to get the recorder be alive again. But you must find a person with the skills to get the chip soldered.

The No OPC message means that the unit can't record. The laser power calibration for the burner failed the internal test with that disc. Was the disc a blank disc? Make sure that you use a clean CD-R or unfinalized CD-RW. Try a different lot or brand of CD-Rs or CD-RWs. If the problem persists, then the laser on the recorder is damaged. If the unit is under warranty, contact Philips. However, based on the date given on the manual, this may not be worth finding a shop to fix the unit. DVD/CD burners for computers are fairly cheap but I'm not sure of the specs for a replacement CD burner for inside this unit.

The manual is available from Philips here: www.p4c.philips.com/files/c/cdr765bk/cdr765bk_dfu_eng.pdf . The trouble-shooting information is on page 21 (page 23 of the PDF).
I hope this helps.

My 760 recorder keeps show no audio when I try to record. I've tried hooking it up serval ways no luck. However it plays perfect.

You can not use normal Data CDs. Use CD-R Digital Audio CDs or CD-R Audio recordable CDs. If you use correct Digital Audio Recordable CDs, it will show OPC. Once you press Recording, audio out is coming. Otherwise you can not listing to audio. Please read manual carefully. Above will solve your matter.

I have a philips audio recorder cdr 760 When i try to record cd rw a blank audio tdk cd the machine said OPC FAIL What I have to do to record the cd rw on my Philips cdr 760 Thanks for your...

There are a lot of forums which discuss OPC failure and it strikes every hardware maker and brand of media.

The bottom line is that certain media and certain writers just don't get along.

The manual:

"I don't buy expensive blanks. I buy modest quality blanks and watch
for sales so that I can them for about a dime a piece after the rebate
check comes in. If I have an OPC Fail message, I try another blank. If
I find that they consistently fail (about half a buck wasted) I move
the stack over to the computer (which seems to work fine with these)
and buy another stack of blanks of a different brand next time I see a
good price..."

an interesting workaround:

http://www.sweetwater.com/forums/showthread.php?10128-Tascam-CD-RW5000

"CDRW 5000 work around for OPC FAIL
Here's a work around for OPC FAIL on cdrw 5000 -

method 1: turn unit on at least 30 minutes or more before use (this seems to work best for me)

method 2: run OPC on an old cd that always works - after OPC passes, remove old cd and insert new CD (you only get 99 OPC runs per disc)

-or use a combination of the two methods

I've always used TDK and I recently bought a new batch and they stopped working. The old ones still work everytime. I don't know enough about the system to guess what the difference is.

side note: CDRW 2000 will finalise discs from the cdrw 5000 but not the other way around.

Hope that helps "

Disc won't initialize or record, keeps saying no disc or opc erro

I suggest you try cleaning the lens...

If the wrong disc was inserted, say a music disc, there would surely be a message to that effect. If no such message is displayed I would guess the unit is faulty.
