If this is the dual trigger Weller gun and your tips are held in place by either set screws or by locking nuts, Just loosen both of the parts that are holding the tip to the gun and then retighten them back up. Soldering iron tips that appear to be tight might not be and this will insure that the tip is indeed tight and also cleans up the connection of the tip to the soldering iron. Oxidation from heating and cooling will cause a tip to not get very hot. Loosen the tip holder and then retighten it. Hope this gets you going again.

Wont heat enough to solder

Hello, does your solder iron --Weller- humming? Also, is the solder tips the right tips for you Weller woldering gun? Are the tips tightened on the end of the solder gun prongs?

Well, if it is humming there is internal short in the windings inside of the gun. Don't mess with. Recyle it by taking the copper, brass, aluminum, and other metal out. Now, if it is not humming.
Make sure you have right tips, make sure that the tip is tightened in the soldering gun prongs.

The working principal of these soldering guns is that they work on low voltage and very high current. The current is regulated to keep the tip from burning into. Just enough current to heat the tipe to a certain temperature.. It can shock you but there not enough voltage with current but it will hurt. and could burn you. Be careful and lots of luck...GB...stewbison

I have a weller wp35, 35 watt iron. It came with the ST3 tip. I want to solder automotive wire, Say 14 to 20 gauge wire. Two questions: 1 is the wp35 strong/hot enough to do this type of soldering? 2...

The WP35 is strong enough and the ST3 tip will do the job. The larger tips are really only for covering larger items but when soldering it's the wire you heat, rather than the solder, and melt the solder with the wire. The tip will reach the same temperature regardless of the size and while the larger tip might heat the wire a little faster the difference would not even be noticeable.

My Weller PSI100K Portasol soldering gun will not get hot at the tips, but it is producing heat at the vent holes?

It is supposed to produce heat there, it's the place where catalytic combustion takes place. If the tip doesn't heat up enough, it means that either the tip is not screwed properly into the housing, or there's not enough gas pressure. The catalytic mesh should be orange in color when heated properly.
Too low gas pressure may be a result of many things, like a malfunctioning valve (regulator and/or on/off),or clogging of the ceramic pressure reductor due to poor quality gas used, with high heavy fraction content.

I have a Weller 1002B soldering station. Haven't

Hi, I'm not sure the tip is defective. Check that the tip is screwed in tight. If it is not good and tight the tip will not get a good heat transfer from the solder wand. Hope this helps. If the wand will heat then the tip should.

Iron is not heating up hot enough stained glass soldering iron:

hi friend,
check this out
Consider the wattage of the soldering iron. A good soldering iron will have wattage of 80 to 150. A wattage of lower than 80 is not ideal for stained glass. You need a soldering iron that will melt the solder fast enough for your project. Consider the type of temperature control you want. Some irons will have a temperature control built in the tip. When the temperature drops, it will turn on and when the temperature is reached, it will turn off. Other soldering irons have a built-in rheostat. You control the temperature by turning the dial up or down. A separate rheostat can be purchased to plug your soldiering iron into. Rheostats are highly recommended. This lets you match your temperature to your soldering style and allow you to do decorative effects.
  • Step 2 Consider the heating element. There are two types of elements, ceramic or wire-wrapped. Ceramic core irons maintain heat more efficiently than wound wire heaters. In a ceramic core, the heater core extends into the tip for faster heat transfer. This will keep the tip hot for a longer period so you can work quickly and faster. Ceramic irons maintain their temperature longer and heat up within 30 to 60 seconds.
  • Step 3 Consider the weight of the soldering iron. You want a soldering iron that is lightweight and balanced. You will have less fatigue when using a lightweight soldering iron at long stretches of time. Check to see if it fits your hand comfortably. Check to see if it has a good rubber cushion for your hand.
  • Step 4 Check for the ease of changing tips on your soldering iron. When soldering stained glass, you want to match your tip to the technique you want to use. There are a variety of tips on the market for soldering irons, and you want to be able to change them easily.
  • Step 5 Check the soldering iron to see if it has a heavy-duty cord and a three-prong plug. You want a grounded three-prong plug to prevent the possibility of shock.
  • hope this helps u

    Soldering gun Question

Where soldering irons have a heating element that heats a copper or alloy tip; in a soldering gun, the tip is also the heating element. Most soldering guns are hot enough to solder in less than 5 seconds and cool enough to touch in less than a minute. Soldering guns are ideal for the typical home electrical job like connecting speakers or installing automotive accessories. These jobs often have only a few connections to solder so a soldering gun can be a real time saver.
