Question about LG Washing Machines

1 Answer

LG front washer squeaks upon wash cycle and last till end of wash. Gets worse with each cycle. Sounds like rubber rubbing together.

Open door, and pull on drum/tub forward and back and see if it moves a lot. Next try to wiggle the drum/tub and see if it moves side to side, up and down. If either, then either drum bearings issue or bolt that holds drum to outer tub is loose. Let us know what you find by making a comment to this answer

YES, the drum/tub definitely moves when I tug at it. It moves side to side and up and down. Thank you. I thought I was going crazy.

  • rdjagger Apr 17, 2017

Well, it is most likely drum bearings and seal going bad, but it could be just the bolt that holds the inner tub to the outer tub. Take the back inspection cover off(4 screws-lift up, pull off) and try to tighten the big bolt on the middle of the motor-17mm I believe. If it is loose-kinda unlikely but maybe-you're good to go. If it is tight, then definitely it's the bearings and seal. Time consuming and hard job but doable. Check out how to videos at repairclinic.com or appliancepartspros.com. Enter your model number, find bearings in parts list and there should be a video link. Good luck.

The machine is brand new, provided by management company of the apartment I live in. I live better have them handle since it is their property. But I wanted to be informed or at least have an idea of what the problem could be.
    Thank you so much

  • rdjagger Apr 17, 2017

Well if washer is brand new, I find it hard to believe it is the bearings. But if inner drum wiggles inside of outer drum significantly I have no other ideas

  • JC C. Apr 17, 2017

Do you think that the sound could be because of poor installation? I assume it is brand new because the apartment was renovated and never had the washer/dryer before. The dryer works fine.

  • rdjagger Apr 17, 2017

Again, if the inner tub wiggles significantly inside the outer tub and the outer tub does not move much or at all, then it is a problem. If the inner tub and outer tub move as one and there is no wiggle between them, then that is not your issue. If the washer is brand new then it's under warranty. What is the model number?

  • JC C. Apr 17, 2017

    The model no. is WM3270C

  • rdjagger Apr 17, 2017

Model came out about 5 yrs ago. So could be new. Could be used.

SOURCE: my washer has recently started thumping and

Hi, . according to your washer problem i m writing solution ,please read and follow it:-

  1. Most noises from a washing machine occur during the spin cycle. If you hear loud thumping during the spin, the load of clothes may have become unbalanced. Stop the washer and redistribute the clothes, then re-start it. Repeat these steps if necessary.
  2. check out this following options one by one to locate the fault in your machine.
  3. 1)Check for drum bearing failure if your washing machine is noisy on the spin cycle. Drum bearing failure is common when the bearing seals start allowing water to enter. You can take the belt off and spin the drum by hand, and if the drum rumbles, replace the bearings.2)Turn the drum by hand and listen for loud noises. If the drum itself is split or the 'spider' is corroded, broken or has come apart from the back of the drum it will create a loud noise on every turn of the drum. (When the bearings have gone bad, the noise is constant the entire time the drum is spinning.)3)Look for obvious dents and creases in the drum or look for coins or small objects stuck inside the tub underneath the drum when a horrendous noise is made while clothes are in the tub.4)Clear thewater pumpfrom obstructions like coins or small objects when a noise occurs while the washing machine is emptying water.5)Remove the sump hose and look for bra wires if you hear a light scraping noise when the drum is turned by hand. You can also check to make sure a wire isn't poking out of one of the holes in the drum. In this case, you can pull the wire out easily with pliers.6)Take the belt off and run the motor alone if you hear a high pitched squealing noise to check for motor bearing damage or wear. If you still hear the noise without the belt, it's the motor bearing.
  4. you can get the required partys from
  5. www.repairclinic.com
  6. I hope this will help.

Take off the lower panel. Inspect the shocks too see if they are damaged. If they are OK turn the wash basket by hand if the knock is heard then most likely you have a broken wash basket.

I have a LG front loading direct drive washing machine (WM1812CW) that is 5 years old that is making a loud knocking noise during the spin cycle and is emitting a burnt smell after the cycle ends. ...

It seems you need to have a new sealing rubber fitted. IN THE MEANTIME, if the knocking happens again when the spin starts, stop the machine, let the washing drop to rest, and then start it again, the re-positioning of the fabric inside the drum should even out. Also, do not load with say.. only towels, that way the weight is one sided and will make the drum spin in an uneven way.

Whenever it gets to almost the end of the cycle and usually while it is in rinse, the error message OE comes up and it won't drain the water from the tub or go any further

Had same problem last night with my LG WM1814CW but mine didnt get to the end of the cycle, it would fill and start humming when it was supposed to be draining then the OE would appear. We drained the machine through the front door hose, turned the machine on its side and removed the drain pump. Very easy access and very easy to remove the drain pump. There was a half a bobby pin against the impeller and that stopped the turning. Took the bobby pin out and put it all back together. It works like a charm now. Very nice system that LG has.

My LG TROMM model # WM1812CW has a burning rubber smell when it's on the last high speed cycle. Can you help me locate the problem?

I just ran into this same situation. The problem was that the basket has been rubbing against the tub/door gasket. In this specific case it finally wore through the tub and was a hole through it. It si looking to be approx a $600 repair.

GE Profile Harmony Washer has loud squeak when filling

Based on your description, it sounds like the water inlet valve is making noise, since you hear a squeaking noise during the filling of the washer. If it sounds like a constant squeak or squealing noise, i'd say it's caused by either the water inlet valve not being pulled all the way open, or because the water supply shut off valve at the house end isn't open all the way. Try opening the water supply shut off valves all the way open, (check to see that they are).

What is interesting is that the squeaking comes back during the draining of the water. Is this while the tub is spinning or only at the very end of the cycle? Again, it could be the water inlet valve, since the washer will "spray" some fresh water into the washer during the final spin cycle to help remove any soap residue, etc.

The part ins't cheap at around $123.00 for this valve, so unless it's really annoying you to no end, I'd wait for the valve to stop working before getting the repair done, unless you want to do the repair yourself, which isn't difficult, with some basic tools and time.

If you wait and let this go until it fails, you'll notice the water in the tub might not fill all the way for the level set, or the valve will start getting even more as it gets worse.

Here's a drawing that shows your washer and the part I'm talking about.

Weird rubbing or mild grinding noise when in spin cycle.

It sounds like the bearings on your tub are going. This is an expensive and difficult job to do. (approx $450 parts and labour and you may do more damage trying to take it apart)
