Question about Garden

7.25 horsepower B&G won't start. Turns over and briefly started after I sprayed carb cleaner in it. Filter is clean. Spark plug is clean. Carb looks clean but still won't start.

The inside of the carb is clogged. take it apart and clean with carb cleaner.

Clean or change air filter. Clean, gap or change spark plug. Empty gas tank add fresh gas with Stabil. When spark plug is removed pull rope several times to blow out cylinder. Spray starter fluid in spark plug hole before replacing spark plug. Clean outside of carb so choke works freely. Spray starter fluid into carb breather hole with air filter removed and try to start. if running replace air filter and cover. If no start disassemble carb and clean. If no start replace carb.

Cub Cadet has gas, has spark, has air -still won't start/run


Are you pulling the plug to check for wetness after cranking it a few times, WITHOUT using the starting fluid? Also, I would recommend using carb cleaner in place of the starting fluid. Starting fluid runs the engine VERY hot for a brief time and can possibly damage rings, valves, and aluminum parts.

Generator Won't start


Gap the plug at .030 What is most likely the main problem is whatever gas sat in the carb. Even with fresh gas there will be some old gas still in the float bowl. You may be able to drain the bowl and be OK but I have a feeling that the carb will need to come off and be disassembled and cleaned properly. You can try spraying carb cleaner (I dislike starting fluid as it is too volatile and carb cleaner does just as well in this instance) into the carb/intake. Remove the air filter, open the choke, and spray the carb cleaner in through that way if possible. You can actually keep an engine running by spraying with short bursts. Even by just spraying once you should be able to get the engine to start. If it does start but then will not stay running without spraying more into the engine then it is a carb problem.

Sounds like the carb is varnished up and needs to be rebuilt. They make rebuild kits depending on the carb number and you can rebuild it.

My Toro Model 20070 that until now has always started on the first pull, won't start at all now. It started fine last week. It's getting spark (a little more yellow than blue). I replaced the plug,...


Hold the butterfly valve (behind air filter) open with a screwdriver, while somebody else tries to start it. Toro has had problems with atuomatic chokes. If it fires right up, thats the problem! If so, just wire it open, or contact Toro for a repair kit. Try using starting fluid, not carb cleaner, and spray directly into the head through the spark plug port. If you didn't do it already, blow out all the ports in the carb with compressed air, or carb cleaner. Also, be sure the safety lever is engaging correctly (top bar on handle) at the engine. Lawn mowers are pretty simple, so the problem is most likely simple too.

Is the smoke coming from the spark plug hole or just near it?

There are three things that you need for it to work.

Fuel, air and spark.

If you are missing any one of those things, or if one isn't optimal, it wont work well if at all.

You say spraying carb cleaner into the chamber lets it start, but after a minute it dies?

That tells me you are getting a spark.

Have you taken the carburetor out and cleaned it thoroughly with carb cleaner?

Often when fuel sits around inside a carburetor it can build up gunk and make it not function properly. I recommend removing the carburetor and taking it completely apart, cleaning everything with carb cleaner and putting it back together. It sounds difficult, but I promise it is not, just take pictures to help you remember how everything goes together if you want.

Also while you are at it either clean or replace the the air filter, that should help as well. If its a foam filter you can clean it with gas, if its paper, just buy a new one.

Tuned last june at dealer and it ran great winter now and won t start where do i spray starter fluid?


Empty your gas tank and clean it out completely drain fuel from hose
feeding the carb., take bowl off the bottom of the carb. and clean out
the bowl besure that all the gum and varnish is removed. replace
all the removed parts. Then remove carb. filter and spray directly into
open carb. cleaner. replace filter and clean spark plug and Start.

Poulan 6.75 Lawn mower will not start


Remove spark plug, clean and dry. Replace plug. Remove air filter. Spray WD-40 into carb opening; one second blast. Turn over engine, (pull handle). Engine should start briefly and run for 3 seconds.  If not, you are not getting spark to spark plug. If engine starts, you have a dirty carb and you can buy a rebuild kit from manufacture.

Are you adding oil to the gas? (32/1 = 4 ounces per gallon)
Do you still have spark? Install a new stock spark plug.
Clean the carb, but follow these steps >

Remove the carburetor from the engine.
Remove the float bowl and clean the entire carb with a spray carb cleaner from the auto parts store. Wear protective goggles to avoid getting spray in your eyes. Spray into all the little airways and fittings in the carb. Remove the two screws on the outside throat of the carb and spray into the screw holes as well.

Be sure to put these two screws back in the same hole they came out of. IMPORTANT > do not tighten these two screws down. Only screw these in until they LIGHTLY seat. Now turn each screw one and one half turns outward. Put the rest of the carb back together, clean the air filter and install the carb. Let the float bowl fill then start the engine. Let the bike warm up then set the idle speed. This process should get you back on the road.
