SOURCE: lawn mower will not start

check gas tank with light is there dirt in tank? did you change fuel filter? is there spark at the spark plug? try a 2 second spurt of starting fluid in carburetor and crank does it fire?if it does then you most likely need to clean carburetor with carburetor cleaning spray, flush fuel lines with spray and swap fuel filter.

SOURCE: We have a John Deere lawn mower model JS45. Just

this problem is related to the auto-snesing carburator. If you wrap the throttle cable, that runs down the left side of the mower, around the handle several times and tie wrap in place the mower will run. I had the same issue with mine. the manual is vague at best when it describes how to fix. After you wrap the cable around the handle, it will tighten the cable and the mower will run.

SOURCE: My mtd(11A-54MC552) lawnmower won't start. changed:

The Flywheel has a brake and switch assembly on that is item 8 of this link: http://www.ereplacementparts.com/mtd-11a54mc006-2009-push-walkbehind-mower-parts-c-20039_20100_133234_21459.html#part_343018

The switch is made or unmade by the position of the user safety bar on the handle. When the cable between the handle and the flywheel safety brake wears or needs adjustment the safety switch continually grounds the ignition so there is no spark. You may have to adjust the user safety bar cable at the engine flywheel brake switch area by losending the mount screw and moving the cable jacket further away from the switch. Then re-tighten the mounting screw.

If this is the first start of the season you may have to remove the carb float bowl as shown on the bottom of item 14 the above link to clean out the jet orifice in the threaded area of the carb. Make sure you remove all debris in the carb float bowl area. You should also have fuel flow anytime the float is positioned below horizontal.

If none of the above corrects the problem respond here and I will help you.

Thanks for choosing FixYa,
Kelly

STARTED AND RAN ROUGH AND WONT START AGAIN... NO SPARK

Drain gas completely from tank to ensure no water is in the tank, check for spark with spark tester, if no spark shows with spark tester, re check gap on coil, if points & condenser are present, sand down the gap between the points to ensure a proper connection. Make sure to change fuel filter with a high quality John Deere fuel filter and use fresh fuel... Fuel can "go bad" after 1-3 months, if the tractor is/ left outside chances are there is water in the tank.

NO SPARK AND WONT START 317 JOHN DEER

Go back and double check all your work,,, make sure nothing was disconnected, or damaged.... Put in old plugs to verify new plugs...aren't faulty. Drain old gas from tank and carb completely! Water doesn't combust!!! Drain drain drain! No addictive a, no make shift remedies... Just drain tank and put fresh fuel. 1. Check spark plugs for fuel, making sure fuel is making its way to the cylinder to the plug. If not check fuel fiter, fuel lines and pump... If so... Step 2. 2. Check for spark, with a spark tester, just cause you see spark doesn't mean you have enough... If not, clean up and sand down all points ends, if there new there is a layer of grease/ wax that will stop the gap on the points from making a spark. Also there might be an ignition modual on your tractor that controls all the electrical circuits, (under the battery tray.. Black box). 3. Make sure pto switch, lights and other switches are off and safety switch are NOT by-passed, if so it will cut the power to the ignition modual and engine.

Won't start. Drained old fuel and added fresh; cleaned in-tank fuel filter; cleaned plug. Still won't start

i would take the plug out and and the spark plug wire on the plug and try cranking it over and make the plug is firing if there is no fire then the ignition coil is dead but if you have fire then its a carb problem rarely ever a timing considering most mowers are timed with key ways which prevent them from jumping time.but if you have fire your good their but my overall suggestion is to rebuild the carb and swap out the spark plug if the mower has set for a period of 6 months or longer.
