What engine is used to replace oh 160 tecumseh on miller welder
It is a 16 horsepower engine. Techumseh ceased production in Dec 2008 and liquidated the small enegine and Peerless groups.
The issue is what does the PTO end of the crankshaft look like? Straight shaft? not common. If tapered, more common. If tapered, that limits options greatly too.
If the shaft is 1 inch diameter, a 340 CC Honda single has some possibilities, if you have the 1.125 inch shaft, you are up in the 600 CC range twins. Northern Tool does carry them, as well as other brands like Briggs, Kohler, or "Power Horse" which appears on the surface anyway to have the Techumseh castings.
If it is a matter of just no spark, a new Magneto should rememdy that unless the magnets fell off the flywheel. There are aftermarket sources for the magnetos for electronic ignition. There may even be a piston and ring kit for oversize bores too. There may still be some NOS Techumseh parts as well. While it may seem expensive to rebuild the engine, it may boil down to the most cost effective repair. Not many shops will do an overhaul these days though, so time has to be factored in there as well. If you have tool truck stop by on a regular basis he can usually tell you who to visit for the overhaul.
There are other possibilities too, but the tapered shaft limits them greatly.
