Put the whole thing in the nearest dumpster, go purchase a printer that uses toner instead. I work on copiers for a living and have learned not to work on any printer that uses liquid ink. Even the technicians who work for the maker of your printer replace the commercial printers that use ink with a refurbished machine, and usually make no attempt to repair them in the field.

Hi Norman,

The Error message usually relates to Printer Failure. However you can try few steps to fix it. ( Hopefully )

Turn off the Printer.

1. Open the Carriage access door.
2. Remove the Cartridges and Printhead ( Printhead is the part on which you install the cartridges )
3. Lift the latch to remove the Printhead.
4. Move the carriage from left to right 6 times and it should move freely
5. Clean the contacts on the printhead with lint free cloth. ( Golden dots at back of Printhead )
6. Turn on the printer and it should say " Printhead missing or not installed/Damaged "
7. Install the Printhead and Cartridges and close the latch and close the Carriage door
8. the printer should go through alignment process

If this step does not fix, You may try calling HP customer support to check for better options/solutions

Printer preparation please wait error message on HP 6500 printer

This problem happens when the cartridges are not properly aligned. With the printer turned on, open the cartridge access door. The carriage will move and then stop. Now uninstall the cartridges from the holder. Clean the electrical contacts on the holder and then reinstall the cartridges. Make sure the cartridges are perfectly placed into the holder. Close the cartridge access door. Turn off the printer and now turn it on. Check if the printer says Aligning cartridges. If this is not working, then hard reset your printer. With your printer turned on, unplug the power cord from the printer and the wall outlet. Wait for a few minutes and reconnect the power cord. The printer should turn on automatically. If it does not, then press and hold the power button to turn it on. Resetting the printer will fix most issues dealt with the printer.

Printer won't print black color

hi Kelly,
  • Make sure the cartridges is well latched into their slot and also well vented by:-
  • Turn the printer on.
  • Access the cartridges by opening the ink cartridge door[lift the upper case of the printer].The carriage will move to the center so you can see the cartridges.Wait till its silent.
  • Remove the cartridges from their slots by pressing the tabs in front of them.
  • Most of the cartridges are usually with an orange tab fixed just above the hp logo.Make sure its completely removed to vent the cartridge.
  • Re-install the cartridges making sure they go into the right slots.Note that each cartridge goes into their corresponding color slots.
  • Also you can clean the print head by:
  • Load a plain A4 size paper.
  • Go to printers control panel and select setup.
  • press > arrow and then select tools and ok.
  • Press the > arrow again and then select 'clean printhead' and OK.
  • The print head cleaning will begin.
  • Now try printing after head cleaning ends.
Hope this helps.Thanks!

I am looking for a color access door for a print carriage on an hp psc2210 all in one printer. (C8654A)

  1. If you are putting in a new cartridge, make sure to remove the tape.
  2. Turn on the unit, then open the print carriage access door. The print carriage moves to the center of the unit.
  3. Fit the cartridge into the proper carriage.
    • The carriage with the gray latch is for the black ink cartridge (HP 56), or the optional photo cartridge (HP 58).
    • The carriage with the blue latch is for the tri-color cartridge (HP 57).
Slide the cartridge into the carriage at a slight angle, as shown in the illustration above. When the cartridge is fully inserted into the carriage, rock it upright.
  4. Hold the hinged flap of the latch out while lowering the latch.
  5. When the latch is fully lowered, release the hinged flap. It should catch under the tabs on the carriage, as shown in the illustration.
  6. Close the cartridge access door.
  7. The LCD display may indicate that the cartridges need to be aligned. Press Enter on the front panel. You may discard the alignment page that prints.
Remove cartridges
  1. Turn on the unit, then open the print carriage access door. The print carriage moves to the center of the unit.
  2. Press down lightly on the top of each ink cartridge latch and pull the lower section of the latch out to release the cartridge.
  3. Pull the cartridge out of the print carriage and relatch the empty print carriage. The print carriage may move to the right automatically, and if the latch is up, it could be damaged.

Is there a diagram as to how to change ink cartridges?

There is a demo available that shows you how to do this. Open the print cartridge access door, then replace the ink cartridges. The demo is here:

After the intro click on Product Views, then click on Supplies View, then Print-Carriage Access Door, and finally click on Ink Cartridges.

Hope this helps,

How do I change ink cartridge on my HP inkjet 6500 wireless printer.

Hi, When using refilled print cartridges, the Estimated Ink level and the Printer Status Window may indicate that the print cartridge is out of ink. Either continue to use the print cartridge until print quality degrades, or replace the print cartridge with a new HP print cartridge.

The methods of replacing the ink cartridge of the printer follows here:
Open the printer cover
The printer ink carriage will automatically goes to center
Once the carriage is in the center, the printer was ready to replace the ink.
Pull the down slowly the ink tank off the carriage..
Remember the place where the color/black position.
Remove each tank one at a time, and replace the ink with a new one.
Close the printer cover and it now ready to printer.
