Question about Car Audio & Video

1 Answer

Everything was fine on and off the expressway. Two days ago while driving around town I noticed the tranny wasn't freewheeling. Instead it seemed to be slowing down like a gear reduction. It would up shift fine. Today I pulled out of the drive way and two miles the truck stalled out while driving. I dropped it into natural started it right up and continued driving. One mile later and it started to high rev but no movement in any gear. I shifted into 4x4 and still nothing. I rolled and stop put in into reverse and it moved a little whit a winning sound then I put it in drive and increased the RPM?S and it crawled forward a block and stopped. I towed it home the tranny fluid level was good and clean with no burnt smell. I changed the fluid and filter year & a half ago. What about the computer? A couple of days ago I had a check engine light. When I started the car the next day the light was off. The car did stall a couple of blocks before I had no more forward motion. I got a code 37 (TCC) Torque converter clutch solenoid open or shorted

Well i think that the slowing down on the transmission is correct under construction and use of a motor vehicle regulations ,free wheeling isnt allowed least of all with auto transmission .I do know that cars from the 50s had a freewheel device fitted but these were discontinued in the 60s because they were deemed dangerous.Too be totally honest i would need to see the vehicle to pass judgement but i would be inclined to give two possible causes without seeing the vehicle and one would be the flex plate on the back of the torque converter and the other would be the front clutch .If the flex plate has gone you would have heard a noise but if the front clutch has gone then you wouldnt hear a lot but just lose drive and reverse because all the engine output goes through the clutch .You would need to remove the gearbox and strip it to find the problem ,so whatever way its an expensive repair .just for a thought can you get scrappage in your country against a new vehicle ?? might be cheaper in the long run because auto repairs here in spain are a complete box from dealer only ever seen one repair shop advertise in malaga and the price?? now you know why in europe its mainly manuals and autos are another whole lot of money on top of the new car price ,along with diesels .Best secondhand cars for holding their prices here are diesel renaults /peugeots voltswagon and not forgetting mercs but it must be a diesel merc ,and manual

No Reverse and the fluid is dirty and smells funny.

Sounds like you blew out your reverse belt/gear in the transmission. Probably going to need a transmission rebuild/replacement.

Tranny stoped working no movement in any gears.

I know you don't want to hear this but the forward clutch pack has failed, that is either due to wear or a loose of hydraulic fluid pressure inside the trans, pull the pan and look for debris in the pan, if that is only normal small amounts of black goop then the problem is a failed seal in the pressure passages, in any case the trans has to come apart to fix it, so an overhaul will be required. this trans is prone to failure around 100,000 miles. my experience 40 years as an automotive tech, master certified automatic trans technician.

I have 2002 fx4 lariat. The truck seems to shift fine during accel. As you drive along the overdrive button on shift column blinks then when you slow down for a stop the tranny jerks at around 20 to 25mph....

You will need to have the trans looked at, to find out the issue.

The blinking OD light is the trans reporting an issue with the actuators or electronics.
I have not found a flash code for this in the service manual, so I think it is a general indicator.

94 town car leaking coolant

you have a leaking water pump... there is a "weep" hole at the bottom of it and when the inner seal goes bad it starts slowly leaking out of it as a warning sign to replace it. It will do that for a few days, or months even, until it starts leaking profusely.
