Toshiba Satellite P105S6147 cd/dvd drive has some how no longer on my computer. How do I get it back? I have already deleted low and high filters and restarted. The drive is no where to be found.
Registry edits not usually a good idea. System restore is your friend. Some DVD burning apps will change your registry and cause the CD/DVD to disappear. Uninstall the new burning app, or system restore to a time you know it was working.
Depending on your OS, right click on my computer, click manage (or properties), go to device manager, uninstall the DVD/CD driver, shutdown (not restart) the system, wait about 30 seconds then boot up.
It may also be an issue that the drive contacts may have build up (common on laptops). If this is a notebook with a removable unit, then remove it (after shutting down), use a q-tip with a contact cleaner, re-insert the drive, then reboot. You can also reboot without the drive to let the OS "miss" the item, then shut down and re-install the item.
Worst case is you have a conflicting driver for another device. That would require some more in depth diagnostic investigation.
