I keep having to type in my router number to the WEP box
It used to work, but now I have to click on the zyxel button to get the big box. Then I have to go through a few steps and finally type in the router number into the WEP box to get the router to talk to the computer. I was told by a Verizon tech that the zyxel usb plug-utility might have gone bad and that I should buy a new one. Have you heard of this problem before? When I do all the steps, I can connect, but I used to just click on internet explorer and go.
A 6ya expert can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.

once you go to 192.168.1.1 in your browser, you can click on advanced setup and there you see "wireless LAN", click on it to change the option to wep to wpa type of security. i have added an image of the same for your clarification.
Step 2 Enter your username (admin) and your password (blank by default). Click OK . Click the Home tab and click the Wireless button on the left hand side of the screen.
Step 3 Select Enable next to the WEP radio buttons. For WEP encryption select 64, 128, or 256-bit encryption. For the Key type select HEX. If you have an option for Authentication type, select Shared Key.
Step 4 Select Key 1. Enter a Hex encryption key that you make up. The length of the encryption key will depend on what you selected under WEP Encryption.
64-bit encryption 10 characters
128-bit encryption 26 characters
256-bit encryption 58 characters (available on DI-614+ only)
The encryption key is HEX, meaning 0-9 and A-F are valid characters. For example, A4583DFF1A (64-bit HEX key).
Step 5 Click on the Apply button then click on the Continue button to save your settings.
Plug directly into the P-330w and open up a browser. In the address bar type in 192.168.1.1 (or 192.168.10.1) and hit enter. The login will be username: admin password: 1234 If those don't work you'll need to reset the router to actually get back into the settings. Once you are logged in click on Wireless on the left side of the screen and then Security.
If your encryption is set to WEP, click on the "Set WEP" button to the right. The Key1 box is your wireless password. If the encryption is set to WPA then look down near the bottom of the page where it says WPA Pre-Shared Key. The box next to that is where you can type in the password. Retype a password that is 8 or more characters and click Save at the bottom.
Then you should be able to use that password on all your computers when connecting wirelessly.
WEP code will be 10 digits only...you need to type all the 10 digits together (without any spaces)... Try disabling netgear utility and use your default windows utility...It is not the problem with netgear....
You need to reset your router to defaults then configure it again then it will work fine. For that press RESET button for 10 seconds it is in back side of router. Connect your router to computer with ethernet cable then you can access it with following default link. http://192.168.0.1 or http://192.168.1.1 If you are not able to access it with above ip then check your computers ip address gateway ip is your router ip try with it. Then it ask for user name and password. Type user as "admin" and password as "admin" or "password" or blank. Then you can see configuration page of router. Click on WAN settings and set those settings as your internet service provider settings. Enable DHCP if you want to get ip from router. Click on wireless settings enable wireless then enable WEP Security then add WEP code .It is your password to connect wi fi.Then save settings and restart router. Then you can connect your wi fi network with that code.

You want to place a Passphrase into your Passphrase box. It can be anything you want but it must match the security strength set on the router (i.e. 40/64-bit, or 128 bit respectively. After you enter your passphrase click on the Generate button this will generate your WEP Key. You then use that Key for your key you enter into your wireless device. This should then get you connected to the router.
