Handle on my steam iron is too hot to touch

Could be a hidden recall. I'd check MFG website, or email their customer service.

What can be done about leaking steam?

ensure your iron steam button is not set into perminent steam function. leaving the iron with the point of the iron pointing upwards should reduce steam to the handle. also the iron may need to be descaled to ensure any steam switch funtion is not stuck in an on position.

alas we've had the same problem since day one, just opened it up, must be the boiler unit leaking at the start to emit the steam so the handle gets hot and now the seal is totally gone it will just leak when the water gets too hot

My iron handle where I put my hand gets real hot and there is a smell like plastic burning

You likely have a short in the power circuit or the insulation has failed, or both. It is not safe to continue using.
Sadly, an iron will nearly always cost a great deal more to repair than to replace, but if you are lucky enough to live near an old time small appliance repair shop it is worth investigating.

Handle on iron gets too hot to hold onto. Product is an Euro-Pro Ironing Solution. Ironing system includes the iron and ironing board together.

I purchased a silicone heat protector for a pot handle and sewed it together with dental floss around the iron handle

No steam comes out of iron

Hi, there is probably a something broken in the moulded plastic trigger assembly (there is a plastic broken finger that actuates a micro-switch under the rubber handle cover). If you are so inclined, use an orange stick and gently pry up the rubber handle cover on either side from the front to the rear cord end to access, inspect and troubleshoot. I am in SoCal and use the California Electric website to obtain parts or go to the Rowenta home website to locate useful manual information, PDF reader and dealer near you.

Cleaning a self cleaning iron

Fill the Iron with water but keep the water level below the max line. Plug in the iron and set the temp to 6 and stand iron on it's heel and allow to heat for 3 mins. Now unplug the iron and take it to a sink move and Hold the variable steam dial in the CLEAN position. There may be some hissing and spitting while cleaning so be careful. Continue to hold the dial in the clean position until all the water has emptied. If necessary rock side to side and back to front to get all the water out. When finished release the steam dial plug in the iron and heat for about 2 mins to dry out the remaining water and unplug.
