Fuse problem in car?

My cigar lighter doesn't work and I wanted to buy a TomTom so needed this to work. First thing I did was take out the fuse for the cigar lighter, checked it and replaced it as it appeared fine. Now both the electric windows have suddenly stopped working even though I never went anywhere near the fuses for these. So then I checked the window fuses and they seemed ok...now my radio has stopped! I just don't know what I've done to create all this to happen by just taking out and replacing the cigar lighter fuse. It's baffling me. I'm no expert but I can usually reason things out. Anyone have any ideas?
Thanks

Maybe the wires going to be faulty or mistake received of opposite the wires?
Check your under hood, look at fuse.
You need the Negative light pen, you can check to on these fuses.. See the light is on until light out which you should knows.

John, Open passenger door wide, fuse box, passenger side end of dash, under removable trim cover.
The fuse marked Cigar Ltr./Aux.Pwr. 20 amp. is the fuse you want to look at. Check the attached links, instruction and guides, Good luck

Does the Tomtom fuse the car sockets?

It would take a heavy current draw to fuse the cigar lighter. Rather than fusing, the problem is likely a fuse which has opened.

Cigarette lighter not working, already change fuze for 2002 4door explore, what to check now?

use a test light on cigar lighter, put probe in center of socket and the ground on outside of cigar socket or any other good ground. if power to socket, this will tell you if the cigar socket is bad and needs replaced. if it has power and lighter does not work, then its the heating element itself thats bad, the part that heats up! good-day !

Garmin street pilot 330 charging problem

Linda,

You need to check the fuse for both the car's cigar lighter AND the one in the GPS power plug (that goes into the cigar lighter outlet). Both must be good for the GPS to charge and power up.

I don't know if your friends cord worked in you car - or hers - so you're going to have to find out if it is the cord fuse or the car fuse. Since her cord worked on your GPS, start by using HER CORD connected to YOUR GPS in both cars. If it works in her car, but not in yours, check & replace your car's cigar lighter fuse. If or when it works in both cars, disconnect her cable and connect your cable to your GPS again. Connect into your cigar lighter. If it works, you're done. If it doesn't work, disassemble the plug at the end of the GPS cord (cigar lighter end) and check and replace the fuse if blown. You should be good to go at this point.

Please rate this reply if found to be helpful - good luck!

Lighters in my 95 ford windstart not working

in the inside fuse box check fuse 22, this is for the rear cigar/powerpoint socket, also check fuse 28, this fuse is for the front cigar lighter, there is good chance that both fuses are blown, u will need a 15 and 20 amp standard fuse to replace them.

Using tomtom without lighter adapter

look into it & see if anything has got stuck in it...

If there is somthing in there remove it with plastic or wooden tweezers.

find your cars user manual & find the section on fuses, find out the position of the fuse box, the position of the cigar lighter fuse & its rating.

if it is blown replace it.

After this if you still have no joy, buy one on a long lead,
connect the cables to the battery using a fuse holder with a appropriate fuse.
