Question about Pioneer CDJ-700S Turntable
According to the 700s/500s service manual:
E-9101 - MECHANICAL TIME OUT - Mechanical operation did not end in allotted time (CLAMP: 4s) - The loading mechanism is defective.
It means that, for some reason, the mechanism that moves the optical assembly couldn't move to the right position in the limit time of 4 seconds. If there's no CD inside, from the tranparent ring probaly you'll see that the sliding door inside the unit has remained improperly closed (the laser pickup couldn't "see" anything).
Unscrew the 4 black screws under your unit, and remove the cover. If the optical unit has remained exposed (probably not), be careful to not touch the lens. On the left part there's a smal motor and gear mechanism. Try to manually rotate the gears, see how the mechanism works (sliding door opens, optical pickup become exposed and goes up) and check if there's any strange behavior (hard to move, strange clicking noises). Also check for excess dirt over moving parts and gears in the whole unit. To clean it, unscrew the 4 black screws that hold all this unit, remove it, clean it with some soft brush and cloth (avoid using air pressure, also avoid breath blowing anything). Replace the grease with some plastic-safe grease and remount everything.
If nothing of this helps, maybe your sliding motor has some problem. In this case, only an repair shop could help.
Best Regards Fernando
