Question about HP mx705 17" CRT Monitor

1 Answer

Monitor "dead" The monitor just does not turn on---the light does not light up (bad pun?) There is just this "pit-pit-pit" sound. The screen just went black after a flash of a thin white line. I had set it to 1024 x 768 @ 85 Hz and it gave in during a game of FIFA 2008.

Re: Monitor "dead"

Sound to me like the Flyback may have gone. But it being a 17" CRT, it may just be cheaper and less hassle to go and buy a new unit.

Hi I have two HP 2009v monitors that have previously been working fine, all of a sudden, after turning the base unit on windows Xp shows the, monitor lights are on but the screens show blank, do you know...

I had this issue with my HP monitor too. Turn on pc and look at the monitors with light shining on them - you'll probably see the images, which indicates they illumination portion of the monitor board burned = much cheaper to replace!! You did not mention if they are L.E.D., but I'm almost willing to bet they are - and over 3 years old too, huh? Sorry for the bad news - hope this helped!!

If the monitor is completely dead, then is sounds like the power supply board has failed. Sometimes it an easy fix, by replacing a fuse. Most LCD monitors do hav a fuse, the only way to know for sure is to open the case and troubleshoot the power supply.

Sounds like your monitor is going dead. If its under warranty that would be the best way to go. Specifically it sounds like the power inverter is dead or there is a busted capacitor.

Blank Screen

Common problem in monitors are bad caps in the power supply, that is the first place to check, look for bad caps with bulging top/bottom, see example of failed VIEWSONIC monitors due to bad caps here (worst case will be bad lamps):

My monitor has turned blue

Sounds like the screen went bad in your LCD monitor. Reset your monitor to factory defaults. Then if that doesn't do it then the screen is bad for sure.

You my friend have a bad backlight. Inside thes LCD monitors there a little tiny flourecnet lights that help the LCD project the images so that you can see what is being displayed. Sounds like your backlight has gone bad. These can be repaired, but can be costly! These things happen often times, 90% of the time I am replacing the backlights to various monitors. Sorry, but I am certain it is your backlight!
