Re: hardware upgrade

Yes you can , go buy a laptop hard drive of your choice, and you will need to take the ram out and take it to where your gonna buy the hard drive , so they can see what type of ram you need, removing the hard drive and ram is easy , im sure if you take the laptop in to a computer store they will do it for you free, and put the new ram and hard drive in , it is a very quick proccess, if you want to upgrade the cd/ dvd drive , you will need to go to a laptop computer store , just type laptop in yellopages and im sure that will find you something, or what ever phone directory book you use where u are from

Unit will not start only gives 3 Beeps

Seems like it could be a memory problem, replacing the RAM or checking to the if it seated correctly would be the best thing to do.
If you have an AMIBIOS.

  • Three beeps means there has been a base memory read/write test error. Replacing the RAM usually solves this AMI beep code.
If you have AwardBIOS.
  • Any other beep code pattern you hear means that there has been some kind of memory problem. Replacing your RAM is the most you'll need to do to fix this problem.

IBM Thinkpad 600e (2645),error 189 and could not installing win98

Usually this means a hardware failure. I would suggest reseating the CMOS battery overnight to reset the system. Also you might want to replace it as well. It could also be more serious such as a motherboard component failure.
Also IBM error code # 189 according to Scott Mueller's Upgrading and Repairing PC's (8th edition) - "Excessive incorrect password attempts." Is there a password on your CMOS ?
Also try hitting ESC key on boot to bypass. Good luck!

IBM 2373 - Installed a new harddrive and operating system. Didn't use it for about 6 months. I started the laptop today and got the message "cannot detect operating system" and no harddrive detected. What...

Work on a table, open the Memory Compartment, and make sure the ram is fully seated. To be sure it's best to take the ram stick/s out, and reseat it/them.

AC adapter, (Charger), plugged in, battery installed, turn the laptop on, insert your Installation disk again. When the instructions come to Fresh Install, or Repair, choose Repair.

[Checking the ram module/s to see if they are fully seated, isn't really a have to situation, but it's best to do this, and bypass a possible problem. Doesn't take much of a jar to unseat a laptop ram module. {Ram Module is proper computer speak for -> Ram Stick}

If your harddrive still isn't seen, it's time to go to BIOS Setup.

It will constantly doin a physical dump of memory

Physical memmory dump( blue death) as it is called happens due to various reasons, which are related to harrdware failure or overloading of hardware. it can happen if the ram, cpu or the harddrive have some problem in connectgionn with the motherboard- try cleaning the sockets of the RAM and trying agin. the blue scrreens means windows went through a critical error<which is hardware related>. if it happens some times its nothing to worry about but if it happens often then you need to get your hardware checked by soem professional as it be corrupted somehow.

I have an ibm thinkpad t41 laptop i upgraded to a 1gig ram i want to know if the grapics card can be changed or upgraded . I am trying to run 7 wonders game and it freezes up

the graphics cards really cant be upgraded with out major work. The game you want to run needs 512 of dedicated video memory, not shared as a laptop uses.

Hope this helps,
