JL Audio 500/1 Amplifier "Thermal" light flashing

I recently took my complete system out of my truck. I tried to install everything back into place but now when I try to listen, the thermal light on my amp flashes. I have power, and the subs will play for about 2 seconds then quit for about 5 seconds then start again. Can anyone help? JL Audio 500/1 and 2 10w6's.

Thanks for the quick reply, but it did not solve the problem. Could the problem possibly be in the RCA connections?

Hi, It`s definitely shutting down because the uPC is detecting a load on the outputs. Remove ALL speaker connections and try switching on, does it come on and stay on??, If it does, switch off and try connecting the speakers one by one until you find the offending speaker/lead. If it still doesn`t stay on, it sounds like some damage has been done to the amp either when it was removed from your last vehicle or during re-fitment. Ian

Re-check all the connections to the speakers, The uPC monitors all the outputs and if any are taking more power than they should, the uPC shuts the amp down to protect the internal components. Don`t use tape joints alone, try to run the cable the full length without any joints. If you do have to piece the wires together, solder them and stagger the connections, in other words, make one lead shorter than the other so that if the tape does come off, the offending connection is well away from the other so they can never meet or connect to each other. My jl 500/1 the thermal light goes on and off every once in a while and the speakers stop playing

you may have the ohm load to low and the amp is over heating or it need more air and ventilation. use a small computer fan or make sure it is clear on all side so air can get to it.

Jl audio 500/1 amp low ohm light at high volume

I would try running the subs in parallel. Pos to Pos Dual Voice, Neg to Neg Dual Voice. Then Run + to + stereo - to - stereo on both channels.
So you have + and - running to one channel and + and - running to the other channel.
Also your LPF filter could be set too high.

Jl audio 250/1 thermal light

Disconnect all speaker wires from the amp and disconnect the RCA cables from the amp. If it still goes into protect mode, use a multimeter to confirm that you have 12v on the B+ and remote terminals. Place the black meter probe on the ground terminal of the amp when measuring the voltage. If the voltage is sufficient and the amp goes into protect, it will have to be repaired. JL only accepts repairs from authorized dealers. You'll have to find one in your area or you'll have to find a repair shop willing to work on JL amps.

Let me know if you have any other questions.

Help me

It sounds like your running the amp to hard (gain too high) or on an impedance lower than 1.5 ohm. What type of subwoofer are you running? voice coil? how far around is the gain setting? e mail me a j_impala@hotmail.com if you like.
