The sharp points of the teeth should point away from you when they are on the top of the bar and toward you when they are on the bottom of the bar so the saw pulls away from you when it is running and you are cutting down into a log.

The chain on my 18" ryobi electric chain saw came off. how do I put it back on>

  • Unloosen the bts on the chain cover, remove the cover, loosen the bar for some slack, reposition the chain and reverse the opertaion. Be sure the teeth are going in the correct direction. Tight the chain so a dime will just slip under the chain itself.

Timing chain

This is an exstreamly hard engine in order to set your timing chains correctly. Not only are you having to line up the secondary chain from cam to cam by marks, you also have your main timing chain that has to be put at a certain pint as well as using the colored links on the chain itself in order to line up correctly. There is was to much to have to post on here but if you want to email me directly I can try and send you some pictures with all the marks in a PDF. My email is csautomotivecars@att.net. I do have one concern since your engine did backfire. This is an iterferance engine and if you were off you may have bent some valves. Hope that didn't happen...

Where is the timing chain at on a 1987 chevrolet celebrity?

Disconnect the negative battery cable.
Remove the crankcase front cover.
Loosen the camshaft bolt.
Place the No. 1 piston at TDC with the marks on the camshaft and crankshaft sprockets aligned.
Remove the camshaft sprocket and chain.

If the sprocket does not come off easily, a light blow with a plastic mallet on the lower edge of the sprocket should dislodge the sprocket.
To install:

Aligning the timing marks with the engine at TDC, install the timing chain and sprocket.
Insert and tighten the camshaft bolt to 43 ft. lbs. (58 Nm).
Lubricate the timing chain with engine oil. Install the crankcase front cover. Connect battery negative cable.

Hope this helps; also keep in mind that your feedback is important and I'll appreciate your time and consideration if you leave some testimonial comment about this answer.

Thank you for using Fixya, and have a nice day.

I do not know how to replace the chain on a husquavarna 450e chain saw and no one is willing to tell me how to do it.

Before replacing a chain saw chain you must ensure that you disconnect the sparkplug lead. Remove the chain saw cover which is located at the motor end using the tool that came with it. A spanner socket remove the 2 nuts that are the same size and that will loosen the chain arm and chain itself. Note the direction of the chain teeth as the new chain must go back in the correct manner . Now reverse the installation the same way you remove it. After replacing the chain you need to tension the blade allow about a 5 mm slack and there is a tension screw located to the side of the cover you removed. Again it's best to refer to a authorized dealer if unsure.

Will not cut blade stops with very little pressure when cutting. chain is engaged correctly on sprocket

Check the chain is travelling in the right direction, the teeth are sharp and there isn't too much tension on the chain restricting its movement.

I'm a girl. remington electric chain saw not cutting. chain seems loose, was out of lubricating fluid, added more, still won't cut. how can i fix it? or do i need to sharpen it and how?

Yes you need to "have" the blade sharpened. I emphasize "have" for if you've never done one it is virtually impossible for me to insruct you from here. It doesn't cost much to get them sharpened. Also make sure the guy tells you what direction to put the chain back on. Thank you, Dana
