Canon Powershot SD1000 Lens won't focus

I went camping a few weeks ago and it got pretty cold at night and there was dew in the morning. My lens won't focus now, my brother said there is probably moisture in the lens. It seems like a simple problem, I really don't want to spend $100-$150 to get it fixed or get a new camera. Can anyone help???

If you can get a hold of some dry nitrogen and setup a vacuum bottle of some sort using the food vacuum storage bag machine. Place the camera in the bottle. Seal the bottle with a top that has a dual vent idea where they both have a valve shutoff . One to the vacuum one piping in the nitrogen. Nitrogen is a no lethal non flameable drying agent they use in Binoculars to prevent fogging of the inside lenses.. Shut the Nitrogen side gas off. too. Open the vacuum side and pump down as much as possible there will be a max I do believe minus 25 foot pound per cubic inch of Mercury! Nature of this beast. Now shut that valve the camera is now vacuum packed. Turning on the Nitrogen open that port to the vacuum slowly not to make a sudden pressure change and let in all the Nitrogen it will take without blowing off the cap! If it is a pickle jar the top will pop like opening a sealed jar of pickles. .
Any moisture the nitrogen touches will be removes. This can be done if the camera's parts are not air tight. If they are then this problem would never had happened...
Simple and a cost of a very small jar of compressed Nitrogen is way less than 40 dollars. The vacuum machine should be a household item since you can afford a digital camera because you do preserve food and leftovers in savers bags

I was taking picture and they coming out fine. and then all of a sudden the pictures started coming out messed up. I think there is something wrong with the focus. any ideas?

Could be a lens error or display error. The latter can be tested by viewing the pictures on a PC or Mac. Lens errors in a Canon are tricky and usually of mechanical nature - such as a grain of sand in the mechanism. Let the lense expand / contract a few times to test it.

Sounds like you may not be in "Auto" mode. Press the "Func/Set" button, then press Right or Left to select the "Auto" mode.

Canon SD1000 lens error

Turn off the Camera, remove the Battery pack, then press and hold the power button for 30 seconds.

Reinsert the Battery, then buzz around the lens for a few times then check if it works. Make sure that the Battery is fully charged.

The error message indicates that the lens is not able to adjust itself.

Lens error please help!!!

If the sand is in the zoom gears or auto focus gears then the camera would need to be disassembled to remove. Nice thing about this camera is that no soldering is required to take apart. A few small screwdrivers, and some tweezers would be all that is required. Canned air and a needle might also be helpful for removing the sand. If the camera just buzzes then I would say that the sand is in the auto focus gears (the stepper motor will buzz). If the auto focus lens is not fully retracted then the camera lens will not go back in (to prevent the auto focus lens from bumping against the shutter assembly)

Canon SD1000 blurred pictures and blurred LCD, Camera wont focus! please help ive had it for 2 weeks

The best chance to use your SD1000 is to set to picture, push ISO (on top of the func. set ring) and set to hi. This works pretty well. Do not bother sending any camera to Canon, they charge the "standard charge" plus for all their manufacturing problems on all Canon cameras. Definately the worst customer service on the market.
