Question about Troy Bilt Tb425cs 26cc 4 - Cycle Curved - Shaft Gas Trimmer with Ez - Start and Speed Spool

1 Answer

Despite new spark plug properly gapped, cleaned & lightly oiled filter, fresh gas, and CHOKE IN PROPER POSITION, my trimmer (purchased 10/9/2004) still hesitates and then stalls. Cannot rev it up. Is this a frequent problem? Can I fix it myself? Warren Besch wwbesch@netscape.com

Check your spark, as you may need to respace the magnetron on this if it isn't sparking continually. Just loosen the two bolts holding it on, place a notecard (3 x 5) in between it and the flywheel and then tighten it down and against the notecard. This likes to loosen up on small engines and is overlooked easily. Let me know how this turns out.

Why wont my sabre 17.5 h cv491s lawn mower start

bad plug (replace plug), bad gas (empty gas, remix to mfg specs, refill tank), improper oil to gas ratio (see bad gas), old gas, choke in off position, corrosion between plug & plug wire (under spark plug boot (pour freshly opened coca-cola on corosion then rinse with distilled water repeat if needed)) clogged air filter (clean filter or replace). if you have visually inspected & or tried all suggusted here & still no joy, take it back to store if it is new, or take to repair shop for maintance.

Yamaha 5700 manual start gen. Pulls but will not start, fresh oil. And I"m at 5600 feet. And outside temp. Is about 38 degrees.

What have you tried so far? An engine needs fuel, air and spark to work properly.
Fuel - Has the generator been sitting for more than a couple of months? There could be bad gas in it, and/or varnish built up inside somewhere in the fuel tank/lines. The carburetor could be plugged somewhere blocking proper fuel delivery.
Air - The choke may not be working/applied properly, or the air filter clogged.
Spark - The spark plug could be fouled, have you tried seeing if there is spark or not? Is the spark plug wire on tight, is it the correct one, is it clean and gapped properly, etc?

Starts with choke but will not run when choke is opened to run position. New Plug, New fuel filter, New gas and oil mixture, new primer bulb, Spark arestor in exhaust port is cleaned. Will stay running...

I've noticed the Echos are cold-blooded and a decent warm-up time is required. You indicate the fuel mixture has to be somewhat rich to keep the engine running. This indicates the needle jets need tweaking to acquire the proper mix (if applicable) or else the fuel pump diaghram is not functioning properly and needs replacement according to the symptoms.
Here is a link to the site that has the G&D (gasket and diaghram) kit and RB (rebuild) kit part numbers for you. You will need to know your machine's model. Link to determine your carb: http://www.zamacarb.com/pdfs/APPL_CR2010.pdf

Will not start and yes i followed directions. I have pulled that string so many times I have callouses on my hands but it will not start no matter what.

There can be several things causing your no-start condition. The engine has to have good compression with no air leaks first off. Then it has to have the proper mix of fuel/oil and it needs to be fresh. The air filter has to be clean. The ignition coil air gap has to be at the proper setting and the carburetor Hi and Low jet screws have to be set properly. But in past experiences....it seems fuel delivery problems are the most common. Make sure it is getting fuel and spark and post back,

Trimmer will only run in choke position

You have a few possibilities. Make sure you have good fresh gas in the tank. You're not getting enough gas, so choking helps get more gas than air, making it run better. Could be the carb diaphram (not very expensive if you replace yourself), when they get old they don't perform like they should. Could be the filter in the gas tank is bad, plugged. Also might be just an easy adjustment on the carb Low, and High speed screws. The choke has three positions, full choke, partial choke, and no choke, which means run position.

Do you have fresh gas? If so is the mix right? If you can get to the carb easy spray some carb and choke cleaner in it. Check the gap on the new spark plug. The gap should be located somewhere in the manual. The big problem is making sure that the mix is right. To much oil in gas will foul plug smoke like crazy and foul the plug and hard to start. Not enough oil and you can seize it up.

Good luck let me know if this helps.

String trimmer only runs with choke on

If you have to run with the choke on, it's having problems pulling gas thru the carb.
Start making sure that you're using fresh gas/oil mix. Don't attempt to use last years leftover in the tank or a spare can. Bad news... won't fire well.
Second, pop the carb lines off the carb and flush with carb spray cleaner (use the nozzle tube that comes with the can).
Third, check for cracks, breaks, leaks in the supply and return hoses. Replace any damaged hoses.
Disconnect the carb from the engine and spray all jets, orifices with carb cleaner (I like the Berryman's B-12 spray) and reinstall.
Also, pull the filter out of the air filter and clean, reinstall.
While you're at it, pop the spark plug out and clean the tip with carb spray as well.
Finally pour in a fresh gas/oil mix...start as usual. should be alot better!

Homelite zip start 2cycle trimmer.

I had this same problem, would run a couple of seconds, stop, and you couldn't start it again.
Had good gas/oil mix 50:1 and 25cc Homelite. Had replaced the fuel filter, gas, spark plug, and took carb apart and cleaned with carb cleaner and primer bulb worked fine. None of that fixed it. What did? Take the muffler off and see if it will start and run with the muffler off. If it does, chances are the muffler is clogged. Also check the exhaust ports and clean them out if plugged with black oil carbon residue.
My muffler was clogged up, took it off, cleaned out the exhaust ports, there was some oil that was in the muffler(oil that didn't burn during combustion). It now starts and runs like a champ on first or second pull.
