An RX75 bucking as you describe is usually caused buy one of several things. #1 make sure brake pedal returns to disengaged position.Check the brake linkage and add or change a spring as needed. Check for debris clogging the brake pad assembly too.
#2 the speed control linkage roller cam attachment bolt has loosened over time. To correct, drive unit foward in 5th gear and stop with clutch pedal while on level ground. Kill the engine.Lift seat and find on left side the black rod with a funny U cut into it at the end. Its below the red throttle handle. There is a roller cam which rides in the U cut. Looosen the bolt holding the roller cam, let it find its own new position ( maybe just a couple mm ) and re-tighten bolt again. (One side of the U cut cam controls your speed in foward, the other side, while in reverse. Hope this helps.
Yes, especially if there are chunks missing from it on the inside. Also be sure to check the idler pulley, make sure there is no wobble and that it spins freely with no grinding sound.
It sounds like your mower is equipped with a reverse safety switch. This switch will prevent you from mowing in reverse by killing the engine, like any safety switch. You just need to investigate it and decide if you will disengage the blades to back up or if you will disable the safety switch. You mentioned that there were wires cut. Do you know what they were? How many were cut? I suggest that you trace them out to see what they are, where they go. The previous owner may not have wanted to deal with the safeties for a number of reasons.
In regards to the reverse safety switch, many mowers do not have them. As in they do not come on all mowers, historically. I do not know if they are designed into all the newer ones or not. I work on older mowers and whether or not they are on a mower seams to depend on the manufacturer (on older mowers). My seven or eight year old Craftsman does not have one, while a twelve year old MTD may.
Safety switch at seat or reverse. Mower will cut of when blades are engaged if you get off the seat or put into reverse. Check these switches for stuck on, damaged, disconnected, or just plain broke. Good luck.
It sounds to me that you need a new mower deck drive belt, or your blades need sharpening. If the blade edges are rounded, they won't cut butter... Also, when mower is off, check mower deck drive pulleys to make sure you don't have any that are locked up or are dragging. You can check this by pulling the belt away from pulley and spinning the pulley by hand. MOWER MUST BE OFF before attempting any of these checks. You would be surprised how many people would try this with the mower running. Hope this helps
