You need to master reset the phone, you can do this by Settings > Phone settings > Reset settings
if this does not work you need to update the software by visiting this link: http://uk.lgmobile.com/web/web.support.retrieveSoftwareUpdate.laf" style="color: blue; text-decoration: underline; ">http://uk.lgmobile.com/web/web.support.retrieveSoftwareUpdate.laf

How to factory reset a lg chocolate?

The LG Chocolate mobile phone by Life's Good (LG) is used through Verizon cellular phone service. The Chocolate, also known by the model number VX8500, comes in a variety of colors and includes features such as a camera and a music player. The phone can be reset to factory default settings.
    Instruction

    1. Access the menu by pressing the "OK" button.

    2. Lightly tap the backwards button--the one with two small triangles pointing to the left--on your keypad.

    3. Press "OK," and then the number "5" button twice.

    4. Type in your lock code, a 4-digit pin.

    5. Choose "Reset Default" by pressing "3."

    6. Read the message on the screen and press "OK."

    7. Choose "Revert" by pressing the number "1."

Problems like that is like a memory storage failure. Check if there is enough memory in your memory card. Try to delete some un-needed files or application to free up space. If you have an alternate memory card try to replace the existing memory card.

I don't know if you got your answer already, but I've had the same issue, and it seems to be temporarily fixed if you switch your phone off and on again. Good luck!

Ok, here may be the problem, first reset your phone by pulling out the battery. Second, check to see if any of the other features you use with your touch buttons work (select to edit a contact for example) if that does work then it may be a problem I have been dealing with on my phone. The Chocolate has odd issues with it's lock mechanism on the side, check to see if it randomly locked. If it has unlock or if it hasn't contact verizon. They may replace your phone or they may do a hard reset and reinstall the software (this is as I have noticed more of a placebo than an actual fix) Yesterday I had mine hard-reset and I am still dealing with the headache of random issues this is one of the more common ones along with the white screen. After you go thru three to four phones they may replace it but until then hope you get one that works or you may end up with bald spots on the sides of your head from all the aggrivation ^^ hope I helped
