Question about Televison & Video

Distorted vertical deflection on Zenith SR2571DT TV.

The top inch of the picture is folded down over the second inch. Itgets less severe as the TV warms up. It's been like this for a coupleof months. The problem developed a few months after I installed a newflyback.

Can anyone tell from the symptoms what type of component is going bad?Is it the vertical IC, a cap, resistor, transistor? I don't mindblindly poking around the vertical section of the board for a badcomponent if only I knew what kind it was.

Also, is there a way to get a circuit schematic other than buying a $17service manual? It'd be such a shame to have to trash a TV for want ofa stinkin' PDF file.

How confident are you that it's the vertical IC? I can replace it. The part is only two dollars.

Hi..
It sounds like an Intergrated Circuit (IC) has fried. Even on a good day, this is not something you can attack at home. Your best bet in this situation is to contact ur dealer and let them recommend an authorized service center in your area. Sorry I can't be of more help, but this is a rather serious problem.

thank u

You have bad capacitors in the vertical deflection. And you will have to resolder the vertical IC as well. Replace the caps in the area of the vertical IC. Find a TV tech or hobbiest to do this!

Hi,
Usually that is caused by a part failure. The vertical deflection ckt is most likely the roblem. Sometimes it's just a cap usually a 100mf right next to the vertical ic chip. Or it can be the ic itself. Unfortunately you can't adjust it out.

It sounds like a defective capacitor in the deflection circuit. Check all of the high voltage caps.

Picture Greatly distorted all of a sudden by many yellow lines

Projection TV sets are known to have two common problems. The first problem that is common to these sets is convergence failure. When this happens the TV will usually look 3D, Wavy/Distorted, etc. It may also shutdown and blink an error code.

The second common problem with Projection TV sets is dull video, halos around objects, white looking video, or red overpowers the screen. This is commonly caused by the fluid in the lens being clouded overs. To get fixed either call in a local TV repair company or goto sites such as Tv Repair Kits to get a repair kit with instructions. Here is there link.

They have put together complete kits for most models that include the parts, step by step photo instructions, repair assistance, etc.

TV Picture Reduced to Line across the Middle

This is called field-collapse. Either

1. The problem lies in the vertical deflection voltage-doubler circuit. The usual fault is a single capacitor of 100uF/35V that has failed. It is normally connected to a rectifier diode right at the vertical IC. Replacing the capacitor usually gets it working perfectly again.

or

2. The vertical drive IC has failed.

If you are finicky around technical work, then a reputable local repair shop in your locality should do it quickly for you and charge only labour.

You have a vertical deflection problem and the parts location of the bad ones are C2465 10mfd at 160v and shorted diode at location D6460 part #9340 549 45115 Call Tritronics at 1-800-638-3328. I think they sell to consumers. Parts must be unsolderd and new soldered back in.

It sounds like a vertical deflection problem. You mentioned you had a white HORIZONTAL LINE in the middle of the screen. If this line runs from left to right across the screen it's in Verticla deflection. If it runs from top to bottom, it's in Horizontal deflection. I am assuming the problem is a Vertical deflaecion problem. The repairs necessary are most likley to replace the vertical capacitors or the verticla deflection chip.
Good Luck

Hi, maybe just maybe something screwed in the yoke. Other than the vertical deflection coil, you may want to try to check the associated components. Sometimes they have diodes connected as a limiter/shunt. Again maybe... Pls post back, curious too. Good luck.
